500ml bottle, batch No. 60 from Feb.04 (bb.22.02.2007). Ruby black coloured. Brownish head mostly diminishing but leaving nice filigranes on the glass. Appealing roasted malty aroma. Well rounded flavour with a solid taste of dark burnt chocolate. Nice bittersweet aftertaste. Very good after more than a year in the cellar.

Really burnt and bitter. Not my thing, but loads of malt - it’s actually like a stout.

Dark brown, almost black, with a big, tan head, leaving lacing alongside the glass. Citrus (grapefruit) and floral aromas are the first to meet the nose, underneath there are roasted espresso-like aromas as well. Espresso roastiness, some sweet fruit, good bitterness, some grapefruit. Dry finish. Medium carbonation, rather soft. The best beer from the excellent Nøgne Ø brewery?

750 at the Seattle International Beerfest. Pours deep black with thin tan head. Big roasty ashy and coffee nose. Bold attack with firm carb, medium body, forward coffee roast and ash mid palate. Clean finish. Wonderful stuff.

(Rating #1308)

0.5L poured deep dark amber with frothy malted milk shake head. Chewy aroma of molasses, chocolate, coffee, burnt malts and a hint of vanilla. The flavor starts with roasted to burnt malts. The dry maltiness slowly bleeds into sweet and syrupy notes starting with coffee then rolling into molasses, sweet chocolate, a hint of sweet caramel and an even fainter hint of dark fruit. I love the way it begins in standard porter fashion and then adds malty sweetness and smooth complexity as the taste progresses. In the after taste I’m left with a classic porter black patent burnt malt flavor. As it warms I get freshly cooked brownies and dark fruit compote.

Pours totally cloudy black with lacing, nice looks. Sublime nose of well-constructed sweet malts and baked dried fruits. Some alcohol detectable and adds warmth. Super mouthfeel. Tastes a lot like an imperial stout and is quite roasty.

Draught at Capone’s: Aroma of chocolate, malts, and caramel. Poured pitch black in color with a large, creamy, dense, rocky, brown head that lasted throughout. Great looking head. Opaque. Excellent lacing. Flavor is medium sweet and slightly bitter. tastes of chocolate, roasted malt, light caramel, and light maple syrup. Medium body. Dry texture. Soft carbonation. Roasted malt and chocolate finish is dry. A very nice porter.
