Same as the b.c. version, but with a minimal head, as no sparkler was used. Good beer! Original rating: (500 ml bottle). Bottle condtioned. Pours with an excellent thick & tan head. Pitch black, even when held to the light. In a blind test I’d probably say this was a stout (not Guinness!), maybe even an imperial. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, cigar box, English pipe tobacco and dark bitter chocolate. Flavour is again roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate. Not too sweet, excellent bitterness where you can sense the hops as well as the roasted malts. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Nøgne Ø Porter is a very, very dark brown beer that is extremely opaque. The pour produces a compact, but dense tan head that seems to have a slight purple hue to it. Coffee is prominate in the aroma with a hint of chocolate and ripened fruit. The flavor is robust and quite complex as it shifts from coffee to bittersweet chocolate to dark, aged fruit. A subtle anise flavor is also detectable after the temperature of the beer rises some. The finish has a rich semi-sweet chocolate flavor with some roasted malt/coffee bitterness. The body of this beer is full and the mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. Nøgne Ø Porter is an very well made and well banaced beer that reminds me more of a stout than a porter...

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 6, 2007 0.5 l bottle. Black with tan head. Strong roasted aroma with coffee, bitter chocolade, charcoal and menthol. Strong dry, roasted and bitter flavor wit mentholy hop flavor. Soft and oily palate with nice light carbonation. Dry, bitter, roasted and hoppy finish with menthol and salty licorice. This is more like a good imperial stout.
