500ml bottle, 28th Feb 2008. Pours pure black with a tan head. Aroma of medicinal herbs and toasted malt, with coffee and fruity hints. Great aroma of dark roasted malt, camphor, salty liquorice and bitter chocolate and coffee. Perfectly smooth as it goes down. Great stuff!

Black color with a nice beige head. The taste is sweet with roasted malts as the body. Finishes with a nice hoppy but balanced bitter palate.

1 pt .9 fl oz bottle from Blue Max in Burnsville, MN. Pour is a deep brown with red highlights. Head is khaki and about 1/2 inch tall. Aroma is licorice, hops and roasted malt. The taste starts with a very nice roastiness, plenty of malt, some hop bitterness and then finishes with a strong coffee flavor. Really nice palate to this one, solid, but not overly huge. Really picks up flavor as it warms. Nice beer.

Pours a three-finger brown head that fades slowly leaving some lace. Black as midnight. Slight hoppy nose. Light carbonation and heavy bodied. Flavor is roasted/bitter coffee with a slight smoky finish. $6.00 for a 500ml bottle from Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, Me.

Hadn’t really expected much with this and was really suprised to find out how dry the beer was. There was really very little sweetness left, just a lot of ashy/roasted notes that I didn’t find all that enjoyable. The beer looked great though. A nice thick black liquid with a creamy tan foamy head. Aroma smelled a lot like coffee too, with some dark chocolate notes too. I know I’m unabashed in my love of stouts, especially those on the sweeter side of things. This beer was clearly on the other end of the spectrum. But still, I did enjoy the beer and would get it again.

Very dark brown, nearly black coloured. Rather small off-white head. Strong burned malty coffee aroma. Taste is also strong, coffee caramel roasted. Ending is dry roasted, little fruity, nice beer.
