Feb 24, 2008 Updated: Jun 5, 2008Bottle. Pours a pitch black color, with very prominent marshmallow-like tan head. Leaves tons of gorgeous lacing. An awesome beer just to stare at and appreciate. Aroma has some soft malts, licorice, caramel, and a nice underlying roasty quality. Rich sugars and fruits in the flavor; some caramel, roasted coffee, dry molasses. Pretty good. Smooth and velvet-like body. Incredibly easy to drink.

Nov 4, 2007 Updated: Jun 11, 200810-28-07 bottle. Black color with very creamy head. Nice lacing. Roasted smell - which I want more of. Perfect creaminess on the palate. Has actual depth in the flavor. Great balance!

Apr 5, 2007 Poured a dark brown with okay tan head. Aroma was a ton of coffee mmmm. Flavor was nutty and coffee some chocolate late as it warmed. Mouthfeel was a little carbonated. Good beer.

Mar 23, 2008 (Bottled 10/2006) Black with light, tanned head. Nose is strong dark chocolate and soft burned malts. Flavor has liquorice and dark fruits. Finishes with coffee, chocolate and smoothly herbal bitterness. Medium bodied, round and a bit oily palate. Rich and satisfying, without being that heavy.

Dec 8, 2007 Liquid black with a just a bit of head. Not a very good smelling porter in my opinion. Tar, charcoal and a sharp sweetness. Chalky taste with a dry coco that borders on milk chocolate. Slightly acidic. Body and mouth feel were semi-dry and chalky. Really nothing I’ll ever get again.

Dec 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours a nice black color with a medium tan head. Roasted malt in the aroma, as well as some chocolate in a hint of coffee. Nice balance in the aroma. Sweet taste. Some molasses and brown sugar. Light malt and some roasted coffee. One thing I will say is Nøgne is one of my favorite brewing companies. You know you get quality with them. And this is a solid porter.

Mar 9, 2008 Pours a nice black color with a tan head. Roasted aroma with coffee and some chocolate. Tastes of predominantly roasted malts with coffee and dark chocolate. Well-balanced, creamy with just a hint of carbonation.

Feb 15, 2009 First beer poured into my new Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl Champions mug. Pours a nice jet black color with a huge amount of froathy bubbly lighter brown head. Reminds me of an irish coffee in appearance. Aroma is actually rather weak: dark baking chocolate and molases. Flavor is very light in general, molases and a bit of dry sweet chocolate. Overall, not as good as I’d hoped but not bad by any means.
