Acidic aroma: anise, roasted malt, dark chocolate. More acidity early in flavor, wisps of smokey and evergreen bitterness. Very creamy, brashly roasty finish. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 2, 2007 Like the other Nogne beer I sampled, this one has that nice hoppy bitterness, except this time its more subdued and has a somewhat fruit-laden sweet tone with dark malts and chocolate hints. I enjoyed this beer by myself at Cooper’s Seafood after packing stuff for my 84 year old grandma. I feel the alcohol is well hidden but was tired so maybe it wasn’t as noticeable. joshwilfong (787), Cleveland, Ohio, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 5, 2007 Bottle. Sweet nose, touch of acidity. Smoke, chocolate, and light fruit. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 8, 2007 6/30/07 From the bottle at Seattle International Beerfest. Aroma is heavy roast malt forward with lots of dried red fruit. Appearance is dark borwin with a persistant tan head. Flavor is complex with nothing exceptionally dominant. Flavors are blended from bread, nuts, roast, light bittering hops and all the little components of each can be tasted. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carb feel. Overall, a very well made porter; the only thing I could abject to is that much of the complexity it too ’stouty’ for what I consider a porter to be. tarheels86 (781), Washington DC, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 15, 2009 500 mL. Pours almost pitch black with a very thin, tan head. Leaves fairly good lacing. Aroma of raisins, dark chocolate, raw cocoa, molasses, spiced rum. Taste is creamy with rum raisin, dark chocolate, coffee with a harsh bite of warming alcohol and roasted nuts. 7% is not totally hidden. Ends a little dry and watery but this is a porter not a stout. Very powerful and enjoyable. MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 9, 2008 1/2 litre bottle courtesy of and shared with Maniac. Black with a medium tan head. Big roast malt aroma with some coffee, raisin and molases. Roast malts dominate flavor with some raisin, coffee, and earthy hops and a moderate astringency. Finish is dry with a bit of lingering bitterness. Excellent. oteyj (773), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 29, 2009 Pitch black pour with boisterous tan head that is slow to dissipate, but leaves an enticing layer of foamy lacing. Aroma is far more roasty than your average porter. Smokey roast gives way to dark fermented raisin, coffee, caramel, and vanilla bourbon. Flavor mimics the aroma in many ways. Roasty components shine through vigorously. Malt character is very sweet, manifesting in the form of date, fig, raisin, molasses, and caramel. Coffee and chocolate also shine through to create a grandiose set of flavors. Palate is silky smooth with the most modest and caressing of carbonation. Finish is the sort of dryness that only comes from a serious roasted malt component. Overall, very impressive.
