Tap at Capones. Pours a deep brown with a medium creamy tan head that laced. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, tobacco, leather and coffee. Flavor of the same with hints of cherry.

A Mes rate: 50cl bottle at Bier Circus. Wow. What a head. Sim and I have just sat here watching it settle. It came out so thick it looked like you could stand things on top of it. So solid and creamy. Very similar to the Imperial Stout, just a little mellower. Looks better due to the head and easily worth a 5. Slight honey in the nose. Lots of coffee and dark creamy malt. Very definite cocoa. Bitter and alcoholic finish, in fact the finish goes in distinct stages from strong rubbery notes, then bitter, then alcoholic.

(500 ml bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maine/portland/ target=blank>Downeast Beverage Co., cellared for 8 mos. after purchase) Thick, rich, roasty and chocolatey...Pours very dark brown with some highlights along edges. Three fingers of creamy-looking mocha head. Aroma of dark chocolate, a bit of coffee roast and grain. Mouthfeel is quite full and thick, some oiliness, some smooth milk-shakey creaminess. Heavy, weepy rings of lacing. Flavor is heavy dark chocolate with some hints of milk chocolate along with fresh coffee roast. At times veers towards a stout. Not much complexity but quite tasty and thick.

Bottle from LS tasted on St Patty’s at Tom’s house. This, like the nogne impy, was a little bit different, bit a very refreshing change. roasted malts, chocolate, and generic fruits highlight the flavore with smooth bready notes and very mild hop flavor in the finish.

Black, brown head. Liquorice and malt in the aroma. Flavor is a little more dry, still maltiness and liquorice most dominant. Long bitter finish. An excellent porter, full and balanced.

Pours jet black with a moderate tan head. Aroma is intense, with chocolate, dark fruits and other malty/yeasty notes. In the mouth, it’s neither thick nor thin, with moderate carbonation. The flavors mimic the aromas, though it’s drier than I anticipated from the nose. Finishes on a coffee note.

Bottle. Pours very dark ruby, nearly black, with a large, retaining light brown head. Aroma is full of roasted malt, coffee, vanilla and chocolate. Flavour is much the same as the aroma, without vanilla, but is very creamy, with a nice amount of bitterness. Mouthfeel is quite thick and creamy also and has a long-ish finish. A great porter in all respects.
