Pitch black pour with great creamy espresso, long-lasting head with very nice cascade effect as head and body settle into each other. Typical porter/stout aromas - coffee, molasses, milk chocolate, etc. - with a sweet vanilla undertone; very well rounded and complex and delicious aroma. Flavor is rich and full with all aromas included, most notably chocolate. Very soft and smooth on taste buds (like on palate) with no rough or offensive edges. Overall: one of the best porters I have ever had; not watery on palate like many other non-imperial porters (some ratings disagree though). espenra (301), Oslo, Norway
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 17, 2008 50cl bottle from Vinmonopolet, batch 269. It poured a black body with a dark creamy head that vanished very quickly. It tastes of coffee, toffee, apples and raisins. It expands in your mouth and the aftertaste lasts a long time. jkaiser (227), Orlando, Florida, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 27, 2005 bottled; thanks to fiulijn - pitch-black and a fine creamy, brown-tainted head gives it a perfect appearance; it has a powerful nose where toasted coffee first comes to mind but it is in fact complexer than that as chocolatey and plumy notes are here also; a bit acidic, sweet and quite oily, fairly strong malt body supported by a rather high carbonation; the finish is dry and very roasted with more coffeish and cocolatey notes, the whole thing being quickly overtaken by a strong and warming alcohol kick Ernest (4515), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 2, 2007 Updated: Jan 22, 2009Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, mostly lasting. Body is black (not opaque), bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain/nuts, chocolate, coffee), lightly hoppy (herbs, apricot). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, creamy/velvety texture, lively/soft carbonation. Aroma is straightforward, but quite pleasant. Very nice flavor balance, apperance, and mouthfeel. Just a little short of world class, but still yummy. f351c4v (411), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 24, 2007 Pours a deep black color with a minimal tan head. Aroma of sweet chocolates, and licorice. Silky body, very smooth. Great bittersweet chocolate presence. Fresh coffee roast on the finish, quite dry. More of a stout than a porter, in my eyes, but great nonetheless. papajohn (1055), San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA

Medium body is silky with moderate carbonation. Strykzone (1505), Wood River, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 17, 2008 I have been looking for this beer for some time. Pours jet black with a nice but small tan head. Aroma is plums and dark chocolate. No roasted notes. Flavor does have some roasted malt, caramel, milk, black licorice, dark fruit, and coffee. Some nice hops as well. It is nicely carbonated and both the roasted coffee beans and the hops can be tasted in the aftertaste that is a sweet roasted tart flavor. I love a good porter and this is a good one.
