| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 27, 2005 bottled; thanks to fiulijn - pitch-black and a fine creamy, brown-tainted head gives it a perfect appearance; it has a powerful nose where toasted coffee first comes to mind but it is in fact complexer than that as chocolatey and plumy notes are here also; a bit acidic, sweet and quite oily, fairly strong malt body supported by a rather high carbonation; the finish is dry and very roasted with more coffeish and cocolatey notes, the whole thing being quickly overtaken by a strong and warming alcohol kick Ernest (4502), Boulder, Colorado, USA

Body is black (not opaque), bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain/nuts, chocolate, coffee), lightly hoppy (herbs, apricot). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, creamy/velvety texture, lively/soft carbonation. Aroma is straightforward, but quite pleasant. Very nice flavor balance, apperance, and mouthfeel. Just a little short of world class, but still yummy. f351c4v (408), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 24, 2007 Pours a deep black color with a minimal tan head. Aroma of sweet chocolates, and licorice. Silky body, very smooth. Great bittersweet chocolate presence. Fresh coffee roast on the finish, quite dry. More of a stout than a porter, in my eyes, but great nonetheless. papajohn (1055), San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 17, 2008 I have been looking for this beer for some time. Pours jet black with a nice but small tan head. Aroma is plums and dark chocolate. No roasted notes. Flavor does have some roasted malt, caramel, milk, black licorice, dark fruit, and coffee. Some nice hops as well. It is nicely carbonated and both the roasted coffee beans and the hops can be tasted in the aftertaste that is a sweet roasted tart flavor. I love a good porter and this is a good one. JPDIPSO (4932), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 4, 2007 Very dark brown color with a small lid of light tan bubbles. Small rings of lace help the looks. Fairly simple porter aromas. Toasted and roasted malt along with some dark chocolate. Hints of mocha lay underneath. A nice scent, but nothing more that what one should expect. Rich full feel. Again simple porter flavors, but the fact that nothing is amiss is a big bonus. Toasted malt mix with a light malt bitterness. Sweetness is heavy in the middle and actually lasts to the finish. Linger is dry with the black malt bitterness and a mild espresso bite. Well put together porter. shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Oct 10, 2007 Bottle from Beers of the World. Completely matte black pour with a really beautiful head of thick dense mocha cream. This is a nice looking porter. There is also some lacing on the glass that adds to its attractiveness. The aroma is surprisingly lacking. I can pick up some mild roast and some alcohol but not much else. The aroma is pretty weak. The flavor is a completely different story. The first sip told me I was going to like this beer, but as the first big mouthful roller over my tongue I am thinking more along the lines of love. The silky smooth body carries with it a delicate combination of creamy milk chocolate and some assertive but smooth and mild roast. It’s a big flavor but it weight lightly on the tongue. There are some traces of alcohol but all-in-all very good. radiomgb (2068), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 26, 2007 Black in colour, rich lingering tan coloured head, great lacing. The aroma is sweet and rich, dark chocolate, light liquorice, coffee and light alcohol. The flavour is of chocolate, quite sweet, lots of malt, roasty, nutty, some coffee. Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes long, sweet with some alcohol heat. The sweetness starts to come through more than the roast as this start to warm up. Quite good and warming.
