Body is black (not opaque), bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain/nuts, chocolate, coffee), lightly hoppy (herbs, apricot). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, creamy/velvety texture, lively/soft carbonation. Aroma is straightforward, but quite pleasant. Very nice flavor balance, apperance, and mouthfeel. Just a little short of world class, but still yummy. f351c4v (411), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 24, 2007 Pours a deep black color with a minimal tan head. Aroma of sweet chocolates, and licorice. Silky body, very smooth. Great bittersweet chocolate presence. Fresh coffee roast on the finish, quite dry. More of a stout than a porter, in my eyes, but great nonetheless. notalush (2699), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 16, 2007 Dark brown, nearly opaque, with a large, foamy tan head that shrinks to a small lace rather quickly - quite a bitter, dark roast coffee aroma, with notes of leather and tobacco, and background chocolate malt - creamy mouthfeel, with far less carbonation than the head suggests - leather and wood notes, dried cherries, quite an herbal hoppiness, and an undercurrent of sweet cream and espresso - some bright, berry-like fruitiness on the back end - a solid porter, but not one for the ages. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 15, 2007 Bottle: Black, oily tan head, light lacing. The nose is sweet with licorice and roast, nice chocolate and coffee, bitter cocoa and hops, light alcohol. The flavor has a big nice body with tasty roasted notes and fruity alcohol. Super roasty, typical of this brewery, which is nice to see. chriso (4852), London, Greater London, England

An abundance of chocolate in the aroma. Smoky, rich malt flavour. Starts fairly sweet, but picks up bitterness towards the finish. The bitterness lingers in the dry aftertaste. Creamy mouthfeel. Rather different from British style porters, but very impressive.

Small tan head that mostly diminished, no lacing, opaque, very little carbonation, and a black hue. Nose was malty, caramel, roasty and hoppy. Flavor was malty, roasty, coffee, and some dried fruit. Smooth mouthfeel and medium body. Very quaffable, definitely worthy of a try and I would definitely drink this one again if it were to come my way. Quite tasty indeed and nicely done.
