Smells like it has lebkuchen ground up in the mix. Buckets of pine needles, coffee and cinammon in the flavour. An intense and interesting Christmas beer. Pretty tasty warm too finol (525), Nacka (Stockholm), Sweden

Strange spicy christmasy aroma with a touch of citrus hops. The taste has a quite light malty taste with a body that makes it refreshing and easy to drink. At the same time a very complex beer with lots of pine needles and coffee. Perfect beer for a night in front of the fire/tv. fobar (74), Søgne, Norway

Dark color, although not completely black. Nice brownish head.
Very spicy aroma, ginger, nutmeg, burnt malt and other spices.
Unfortunately I must say that the taste was completely dominated by ginger. I am not a big fan of ginger. Not the best beer from Nøgne Ø.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 17, 2009 Bottle:   Heavy brown in color, a bit muddy, very dark.   Moderate to large frothy beige head, nice lacing.   Spicy nose, subtle chocolate, earth, and hops.   Somewhat reminds me of a toned down Anchor Christmas.   Also a faint floralness mixed with some herbal soap or something.   Very herbally on the tongue, spicy, a bit earthy.   Has a subtle chocolate presense.   Somewhat dry, even feels a bit chalky.   Fairly full bodied.   Hops are lighter than I have smelled although they are fleeting at the finish.   Lingering spices.   Not bad, but the spices could stand to be a bit more pronounced.   While they seemed to be heavy at times, they weren’t sharp.

Gorgeous deep mahogany colored, hazed, with frothy tan head that lasts and sheets on the glass. Fantastically seasonal aroma is lush with panetone, cedar, currant, juniper, sage, and wintergreen. Body is medium light with even, soft eff and not a lick of sweetness. In fact, it’s bone dry but with only the slightest astringency. Incredibly refreshing and not at all tiresome despite the intense spice and herb combination. And that. Once I got past my initial impression that it reminded me of old school Noxzema shaving cream, the beer begins to actually taste like my favorite aromas of Christmas. Beautiful combination of spruce, gin, curacao, ginger, nutmeg, leather. There’s a cooling, lingering mintiness. It’s the second time in the last week that I’ve had a beer with this quality and last time the brewer told me it was due to rosemary. I wonder if this beer has rosemary as well, or if it is actually juniper or spruce boughs, or something I’m not even conisdering. Whatever they’ve got going on in here, I adore it. As spice/herb beers go, this one is easily one of my most favorite of all time. As beers go, I can definitely say the same. Will surely buy a bunch more of these, despite the crazy price.
