Pours black with almost no lacing. First sniff is all coffee...first drink is all coffee. Very, very impressed. Reminded me a lot of Bells Java, and I was a very happy camper. However, the coffee rapidly gives way to a dark fruit/raisin/spice combo that isn’t nearly as enjoyable. The aroma becomes all raisins and dark fruit, and raisins take over as the dominate flavor. It seemed more like I was drinking a Belgian Ale than a sweet stout. Coffee still remained up front and in the back, but was just dominated all over by a syrupy spicey raisin flavor. I let this sit for a bit, and the coffee picked back up as the beer warmed, but at $16 a bottle, I doubt I’d grab this one again. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

The aroma consists of molasses, chocolate, and raisins. I didnt really smell licorice but I sure do taste it. I also pick up on some molasses, dark fruit, and chocolate. A rather syrupy finish to this one. Overall I really enjoyed this beer! after4ever (2839), Brier, Washington, USA

Sweet, chocolatey nose with overtones of coffee and dates. Looks a little flat. Coffee, dates, and chocolate on the mid-palate. Mild chocolate finish. Good stuff. bitbucket (2036), Kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 31, 2008 Bottle. Pours nearly solid black, with garnet highlights at the edges and a creamy tan head. Sweet aroma of brewed coffee. Sweet medium body, almost still. Sweet coffee taste, semi-dry finish that picks up just a little chalk. This is one for the sweet tooth! TET (246), Finland
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Mar 29, 2008 Almost black beer with beautiful beige velvet-like head. Aroma is roasted, slightly sour ja there are also lot of coffee. Flavour is like aroma: roasted malts, coffee and liquirice. There are also some interesting and pleasant sweet and sour nuacee in the flavour. Excellent to drink, very smooth and nice. Interesting, balanced and excellent beer with some special nuancees. Rich, roasted coffee aroma with a bit of malt. Coffee dominates the taste along and is very noticeable but well balanced and smooth. Liquorice can also be detected along with plain chocolate and the aftertaste lingers with coffee but not too overwhelming. It is very drinkable for the strength and the taste reminds me of a bit of Estonian chocolate called Kamatahvel. Impressive. ChainGangGuy (2616), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 25, 2008 Appearance: Pours a dark brown body with no real head other than a few stray bubbles.
Smell: Roasted malts and notes of Dutch cocoa and anise, with the smell of cold coffee permeating every corner of the nose.
Taste: Black roasted malts with a sharp surge of sweetness. Clean chilled coffee flavor. Hint of aniseed. Medium roasty bitterness. Very light acidity. Semi-sweet chocolate in the drying finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A respectable coffee stout, they managed to avoid those grotesque, unpleasant flavors of stale coffee left in the glass urn for week or so. Kudos for that!
