oh6gdx (6583), Vaasa, Finland Aug 31, 2008 Bottled (2006 vintage, bought from Alko). Ambery red colour, small beige head. Aroma is alcohol, some caramel malts and chocolate cookies, some mild fruity hops as well as plum and raisins. Also some sweet wood. Flavour is very much raisins, plum, alcohol and caramel malts in an excellent balance. As it warms up it also becomes quite wooden, mildly syrupy as well as vanillaish. Also some toffeeish/fudgeish notes with nuttyness growing towards the finish. Aftertaste is nuts, raisins, some alcohol, wood and vanilla in a really nice mixture. Really soft and smooth to drink. Brutally good.
bu11zeye (4066), Frisco, Texas, USA Jan 2, 2009 (500ml bottle, 2006 vintage, courtesy of blutt59) Pours an amber-brown body with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, raisins, plums, and cherry. Flavor of caramel malt, cherry, vinous, and brown sugar. JPDIPSO (4395), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Dec 30, 2008 2006 Bottle. Dark copper color with garnet hues on the edges. Diminished light tan head, leaving only a small ring. Big fruity sweet aroma, with prunes, apricots, plums, orange zest, dark currants and cherries. Just a hint of rum or perhaps cherry brandy. Thick, moderately oily feel. Caramel start that actually carries through to the finish. Dark cherries, plums and apricots float in and out. Pine sap to orange zest bitterness middle quaff. Fairly dry finish with some oak, toasted malt and caramel in the linger. A slow warming presence. You know the alcohol is there but it does not really draw attention to itself. I think the best way to describe this one would be... sweet and simple.
