| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 27, 2009 Thanks to my bro for sharing this. Pours a rich amber color with thin offwhite head. Aroma is of dark fruit, brown sugar, rum, spice and caramel malt. Taste is of figs, brown sugar, vinuous notes, slight spice, raisins and caramel. Alcohol is well hidden but the warmth from the 12% keeps you enjoying this winter warmer. Solid. Petrucci914 (599), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 27, 2009 2006 Bottle. Pours a dirty ruby color with a medium off-white head which fades quickly leaving absolutely no head or lacing. Aroma is caramel, rum-soaked plums, assorted dark fruit, candied sugar, alcohol, and toast. Taste is warming and hides the alcohol well - plum, candied sugar, brown sugar, and a little alcohol. Solid but different than any other Barley Wine I’ve had. deyholla (746), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 24, 2009 Bottle. Poured a murky brown with a slight red hue and no head. Aroma was dominated by sweet malts with undertones of raisins, plum and alcohol. The alcohol is more present in the taste, but still strong grainy and sweet notes from the malts. | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 7, 2009 I believe this is a 2006 vintage bottle. Pours hazy reddish brown without a trace of any kind of head. Aroma is really sweet with malts, dark fruits and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is also very sweet with increased fruitiness, malts, spices and some alcohol. The aftertaste is sweet with some port wine -like notes. Palate is awesomely full with no carbonation whatsoever. Truly an awesome barley wine. Braudog (3778), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Sep 20, 2009 Bottle with a 2006 neck tag. Poured quite dark, muddy even, with almost no head. To the nose, this presents itself as pure prune juice. Mmmm, not so yummy. Likewise to the palate, this isn’t the beer I needed to crack open at the end of the 3rd quarter of football. This is damn near cognac, rich and over-the-top full of dark fruit, rich and sugary. Save this one to drink all by itself, probably share with 12-14 guys with cigars and a raging fire. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Sep 1, 2009 500mL bottle. Vintage 2006. Interesting aging. Big oxidized aroma. Lots of caramel and toffee. Flavor is malty and hot. High alcohol flavor. Hazy toffee brown color. talon1117 (630), Bellvue, Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 24, 2009 2006 bottle. The pour is fair with an opaque, muddy color and notable sediment with a small, beige head which is fully diminishing. Nose is nice but not fantastic with a lot of plum and date, brown sugar, wisps of alcohol, very sweet and port-like, candied apricots, more candy, cookie spices, and faint cascade hops. The flavor is to be expected with a very, very sweet start with notes of vanilla bean, brown sugar, dry caramel, dates, light dried apricot, and just hints at some baking spices and light bitterness. Palate is very full, lightly syrupy, chewy, velvety, and soft with warmth but a nice warmth for being three years old. Finishes with the cascade, rustic bitterness finally making a presence keeping at least the finish from being cloying; other notes of dried apricot, vanilla, and brown sugar. The more I had, the more the intense sweetness grew on me, but it was a lot to handle. I would have loved to try this one a bit fresher to avoid the intense sweetness, and I’m sure the palate would still be full. Good BW and very port-like but not my favorite style of BW. beerbuzzmontreal (2931), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 19, 2009 Muddy brown pour with lots of floaties and a small ring of white froth. Interesting aroma of fruits, butterscotch and mild alcohol. The flavor has butterscotch and malt, but it feels very dirty and sickenly sweet.
