| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 18, 2009 It pours a death metal- black with almost no head. A nose of smoke, chocolate, liquorish and coal. Taste is heavily dominated by raw coffee, but some liquorish, tobacco and tar is there as well. Finish is heavily roasted, salty and bitter. This is a good brew, but it’s not very complex. The port wine barrel aging isn’t really discernible, and those molasses and figs doesn’t really come out either.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 25, 2009 Bottled (thanks brunnsbe!). Black colour, small brown head. Aroma is quite much imperial stouty along with very sticky sweet notes. Flavour is rather much the same. This one is quite much too sweet for my likings, but still rather drinkable as a slowsipper. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 20, 2009 It’s pitch black with a small, dark brown and creamy head. The aroma has notes of figs, licorice, chocolate, coffee and dark, ripe fruit. The flavor has a moderate sweetness and is vinous with notes of roasted malt, figs, coffee beans, chocolate, licorice and the long aftertaste has notes of licorice and it ends slightly bitter. It’s very lovely, and a bit more complex than the bordeaux barrel. Bov (5514), Bienne, Switzerland

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 15, 2009 Bottle from Olbutikken. Black and opague. Porto, malt and raisin in the aroma. Hints of roast. Full bodied, thick mouthfeel. Porto flavor, alcoholic with raisin, grapes, aok, roast, ash, hint of licorice. Vinous notes. Silky smooth but also an alcoholic and vinous aftertaste. The porto barrel ageing really showes. weeare138 (936), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA

Appears a dark midnight with a small brown cap that seems to float forever. Spotty bits of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of wood, cocoa, coffee, mineral water, dark bakers chocolate, mild roast, very mild hint of port. There’s also notes of yeasty bread ala freshly baked Portugese rolls.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with an obvious nod to the wood and roasty grains.
Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied, slightly bitter, chewy, with a delicate finish. hopdog (5617), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
