BuckeyeBoy (1645), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 6, 2009 First taste was a 2008 Bottle thanks to Toby next Just because it was go good at 2009 GABF. Pours out a dark pink topped with a light pink head. Aroma of sweet fresh cherries. A lot like the NG Belg Red. Taste was great more cherries, some tartness, and a little oak. nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Sep 29, 2009 Large sample at GABF 2009. Met the NxNW crew there while "pre-gaming" at Great Divide. Good guys, big drinkers. This beer is cloudy reddish-brown in color with a medium light pink head. Aroma is intense tart cherries, spices, and a little sweet caramel. Flavor is incredible and somewhat reminiscent of New Glarus’ fruit beers: fairly sweet, although there is also the sour/vinegary aspect that you expect in a Flemish sour. Sweet and tart cherries really explode in your mouth, and there are also hints of oak and spices. Palate is nice and sharp with medium body and prickly carbonation. Great beer! DaSilky1 (1933), San Diego, California, USA Sep 27, 2009 GABF 2009: Red-tinted amber with pink accented white suds. Nose is sour and medicinal with notes of cherry pit, bandage, and caulk. Unexpected sweet cherry flavors with not much in the way of what was exhibited in the nose. Just sweet cherry/sno-cone stuff...maybe, just maybe you can detect some of that bandage in the finish..but not enough. zizzybalubba (338), Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA Sep 27, 2009 Sampled at GABF 2009. Copper colored pour. Vinegary and sour aroma. Big tart cherry, oak, and a hint of nutmeg in the flavor. I loved it. ditmier (1023), Boise, Idaho, USA Sep 14, 2009 2008 Bottle - Thanks for breaking this out Toby! - This motherfucker painted Toby’s ceiling...after things settled down a bit, pours a beautiful reddish ornage with a large pink head...aroma is vinous, tart fruit, oak, slight vinegar...flavour is exactly the same, fruity, puckery, goes from sweet to sour in a moment, lingering sour...this was terrific... douglas88 (1557), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Sep 13, 2009 Wow! This was one awesome beer. Thanks to Toby. September 2008 bottle. Pours a red hue with a huge powerful pink head. The aroma was great; smooth cherries, sourness and tart fruit. The flavor was superb; tart cherries dance around on your palate with a almost equally strong sweet fruity flavor and richness. Awesome. What a gem. SudsMcDuff (1691), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA Jun 11, 2009 ooh wee! loved this encounter... was from the very bottom of the keg, murky and kinda thick, but it was heaven, a beer of this style mixed up was like a smoothie for beer nerds, i loved it .. . purple with a nice head .. . cassis and cherry dominates .. . full and delicous! .. . good level of tartness! if a mixed up bottom of the keg sample can be so good, would love to try a super fresh sample.. ohh wee! its time for betty white to check into shady pines.. kramer (2407), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 1, 2009 Bottle, shared by miketd, thanks Mike! Pours a slightly hazy reddish amber body with a fairly sizable head. Nice sour nose, like a Kriek vinegrette almost, some sour cherries, some pitty notes, nice subtle oakiness. The flavor was just as good as the nose, sour and tart but not bracingly so, just enough oak to let you know this is a real barrel aged beer, lots of pit and cherry skins. Nice maltiness backing up all the fruit and sourness. Mouthfeel was bright and tart with pinpoint fizzy carbonation, lingering sour and oak notes. A very nice beer, this is up there with most any Sour Ales I’ve had.
