Commercial Description:
This rich, malty dark ale is reminiscent of the smooth ales produced by the Weltenberg Brewery in Northwestern Germany. The Pilsner, Caravienne, Munich, Chocolate, Black malts and Roasted Barley give this great dark ale a creamy, roasted malt flavor, which is perfectly balanced with Cascade hops.

On tap at the brewpub; surprsingly this was my favorite on the night. Poured a dark, almost reddish brown with a decent amount of head. Aroma was caramel and roasted; bit of chocolate. Flavor was very drinkable for the style with a nice blend of chocolate, caramel and fruity malts. Good for the style.

Dark brown with a good sized foam head.Faint roasted malt aroma. Tingly texture, creamy, mild roasted malt flavor. O.K. lacing. Good carbonation

Sampler at NXNW- standard black with off tan head, perhaps 10% transparency, aroma of light roasted malt. Hits the mouth with a good medium wide body, can detect alot of the malt, finish very slightly bitter. Not bad, not bad at all.

Quite light for a black ale. Very muted flavor and smell. It had a slight hint of roasted malt.

Somehow I got apples in the smell yet again. Also some light malty roasted smells. Pour was a nice rich maroon to brown. Taste was decent, simple, a touch watery, and roasty, with basically no hops or bitterness. Very drinkable, and I could definitely get it again if in the mood for this type of beer. Actually better than the only other 2 Schwarzbiers I’ve had.

As far as black ales go...somewhat disappointing. The waiter told me to expect a strong taste of chocolate, which I did not. Very dark, a bit sweet, light finish.

Draught at the brewpub
Dark amber color. Light aroma. Some flavor of caramel and chocolate malt. Drinkable but too simple.
