Commercial Description:
Originally brewed for Whole Foods. Belgian yeasts are legendary for the fruity flavor and floral bouquet they give beer. Hundreds are used by Belgian brewers and each is unique. Cru d'Or, a Belgian Style Abbey Ale is an homage to this magic ingredient and the result is a world class beer that is lush and profoundly aromatic with a warming finish. Being organic, Cru d'Or is brewed with the same reverence for pure ingredients as the Abbey and Farmhouse Belgian ales of the past. Delicious.

Butterscotch colored with decent, creamy tan head / Nose of sweet malt and caramel / Medium to full body with thick, slightly cloying malts, with good dry hop underpining and finish / Flavors of caramel, toasted dry hops, and banana / Lacking some complexity, but good.

Lack of carbonation and head-retention are the major flaws in this otherwise tasty beer. Pours dark amber with a banana nose with sweet malt and honey notes. There’s a Belgian feel in the mouth and a bread yeast lingering element. Tasty, but not outstanding-would be good at about $2/bottle.

Bottle. Pours a clear deep bubbly orange-amber with an average size frothy beige head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, some light sugary sweetness, fruit (esp. banana) and spices -- not too shabby actually. Flavour’s fruity and sweet along with Belgian yeast, malt, light hops and some alcohol and spices in the finish. Thick mouthfeel. Medium bodied. This was better then I expected -- I don’t love it but it’s pretty good and it’s well made.

Poured from 12 oz a hazy reddish-brown with medium sized light-tan head. Aroma is sweet malt, yeast, and banana, Flavor has a lot of sugary bubble gum, banana, brown sugar, alcohol vapor, and a slight metallic note. There is also a bit of dough and yeast but very slight. The palate is sticky sweet with a slight spiciness and a growing alcohol prescence as the beer warmed. I found this beer to have a lack of carbonation after the initial pour. Overall, the flavor starts well but lacks carbonation and spice. An OK beer but better choice are out there.

bottled, ruby/brown pour with nice medium tan head, sweet malt aroma with hops with fruity notes, strong flavor of malt/fruit/hops but leaves the palate a nice fruity alcohol flavor, may be too sweet for some but pretty tasty stuff.

Pours a nice dark red color with a minimal head. Aroma is very much like a bouquet of flowers, raisins and hops. Some malt aroma in there too. Flavor is a bit hoppy and just a little bitter, but not bad. Interesting beer.

Deep amber color with a foamy but rapidly dissipating tan head. Thin but well distributed lacing. Nose is mostly floral with some notes of pear and plum. Dark fruity taste with notes of plums, cherries, red grape. Hoppy bitter/sweet finish. Tastes like they were trying to emulate a "typical" Abbey Dubbel, if there is such a thing. Impressive effort at that goal.

12 oz. Garnet with a three-finger head that settles to a lasting creamy icing with frosty lace. Aroma is clove, banana, and wheat bread. Flavor is a mix of caramel, cherry, clove and juniper. Finishes with raisins, berry, oak and woody herbs. Medium body is sticky, mostly smooth, and finishes dry.
