Commercial Description:
Originally brewed for Whole Foods. Belgian yeasts are legendary for the fruity flavor and floral bouquet they give beer. Hundreds are used by Belgian brewers and each is unique. Cru d'Or, a Belgian Style Abbey Ale is an homage to this magic ingredient and the result is a world class beer that is lush and profoundly aromatic with a warming finish. Being organic, Cru d'Or is brewed with the same reverence for pure ingredients as the Abbey and Farmhouse Belgian ales of the past. Delicious.

This is a great beer, much better than the 75% rating. I don’t love BSA’s and yet I really dig this beer.

Aroma of caramel & roasted malts. Brown color...small head. Rich body of caramel, toasted malts, grains, earth, tropical fruit rinds, clove and other spices, slight wet cardboard, honey, and alcohol. Decent body and complexity but not very smooth.

This beer pours a cloudy orange brown with no head to it at all. It has a very boozey and pitted fruit aroma, there is also some hints of chocolate and mild roasted malt in it. The initial flavor is bitter sweet with fig and chocolate. the palate is very warming and full of roasted malt with some nice fruits mainly fig which coat the sides of your mouth.

odly enough, I got this at European Street and remember seeing it at Whole Foods a while back. Out of bottle. A bit different for a Belgian ale.....something struck me as odd. it was way too "clean." There was no characteristic to this brew, but more of an internet recipe with half-hazardously tossed in ingredients. caramel, malts, the yeast tasted generic, and there was a lot of unbalanced fruits and sugar. It was almost "Bubble-gum" in taste. But, I’d rather break my buds over bad Belgian than my teeth over rock hard Bazooka Joe

Poured a fizzy/foamy dark amber-to-reddish brown with a tan head (which never fully disappeared). Super yeasty aroma with a bit of brown sugar, caramel, and spices. Not to complex or deep or whatever. Flavors were very fruity, with a lot of that yeast... very bready and almost "strange" on account of the predominant yeastiness. Some dark fruits coming through later on (dates, cherries, raisins), caramel, brown sugar, and nearly zero bitterness. An alright beer, definitely well-made... probably not a top contender in the style but very affordable and certainly worth trying (and maybe even cellaring just to see what happens).
