Commercial Description:
Originally brewed for Whole Foods. Belgian yeasts are legendary for the fruity flavor and floral bouquet they give beer. Hundreds are used by Belgian brewers and each is unique. Cru d'Or, a Belgian Style Abbey Ale is an homage to this magic ingredient and the result is a world class beer that is lush and profoundly aromatic with a warming finish. Being organic, Cru d'Or is brewed with the same reverence for pure ingredients as the Abbey and Farmhouse Belgian ales of the past. Delicious.

Labelled as "North Coast Cru d’Or" and not purchased in a Whole Foods, so this may be an alias. Cloudy reddish brown, , thin beige head. Fruity, winwy aroma. Smoky and caramelly flavors at first, with some prune and raisin as well. Some smokey and chocolatey notes mixed in. Enjoyable.

dark copper brown with a good tan head that settles into a thin film. nice molasses brown sugar rasin nose. sweet molasses with a bit of tart rasion flavor with light spicy alcohol black pepper notes. finish medium dry. spicy black pepper sweet molasses. full to medium body. lively carboantion. very nice. like a hybrid brown/barleywine with some nice belgian fruityness.....while it might not be very true to the style i enjoyed it quite a bit.

Bottle. Poured a deep amber with a fairly big head that dissipated rapidly. Sweet malts with some spiciness. Then something goes wrong with a harsh bite. Is it the yeast or not letting the wort cool? Belgian style? A shame...

Bottle: Pours a dark amber color with a small white head. Strong aroma of carmel and yeast. Flavor is very fruity and carmelly malts with hints of banana and anise and lots of belgian yeast. A little alcohol warming at the end.

Pours slightly hazy brown, thin foam. Aroma is malty and a bit hoppy, with a lot of caramel and sugar. Flavor is a mix of everything, fruity, floral, spiced, caramelly, a little hoppy and lots of alcohol. Medium body is a good complement, finish is a bit boring.

A good contrast beer after you’ve had, say, a kolsch or something. Nice amber body, lightly spiced, not sure exactly what style of Belgian they’re going for. But while this one has some pleasant characteristics, it’s far too sweet and caramel-y, with a too-thin body.

Bottle. Thanks to Jörgen at Oliver Twist for this one. Pours a slightly hazy amber color withan off-white head. Sweet malty yeasty and slightly fruity aroma. Sweet malty yeasty and bitter spicy flavor. Has a sweet malty spicy finish.

Cru d’Or Organic Belgian Style Ale
Beautiful amber color; poor head. Some malt and a lot of caramel; low bitterness, and without character, not really Belgian Style.
