Commercial Description:
Originally brewed for Whole Foods. Belgian yeasts are legendary for the fruity flavor and floral bouquet they give beer. Hundreds are used by Belgian brewers and each is unique. Cru d'Or, a Belgian Style Abbey Ale is an homage to this magic ingredient and the result is a world class beer that is lush and profoundly aromatic with a warming finish. Being organic, Cru d'Or is brewed with the same reverence for pure ingredients as the Abbey and Farmhouse Belgian ales of the past. Delicious.

Pours a lovely hue, the color of cherry wood. Frothy tan head. Hints of crimson inthe body, head dissipates in record time, never to be seen again. Lacing is zero. Smells of caramel, black fruit, raisins, vanilla and oak. Taste: See aroma. Port and/or sheryy notes in there too. Lightly musty and a prominent alcohol finish. Mouth is full and rich. Alcohol dries the finish, so not too sticky or cloying (though it is a touch too sweet for my tastes. A decent sipper, maybe the best organic beer I’ve had. This would be a perfect brew to have after dinner with a cigar.

Bottle. Poured hazy copper color with an average creamy light brown head that diminished slowly with good lacing. Moderate sweet fruity aroma. Medium body. Medium sweet flavor with a medium bitter alcohol finish of average duration.

Clear dark copper with a bubbly quickly collapsing light tan head. The aroma is bubble gum, candi sugar, dark fruits, and some melon mixed in. The first taste if of bubble gum then some more rustic (what is less rustic than bubble gum after all?) notes come through. Paalte is medium thin with a sugary residue left in its wake. Too sweet.

This beer has a moderatley sweet flavor with a very smooth finish. Redish amber color and a thin foamy tan head. Slight Dubble Bubble (bubblegum) aroma.

Great cloudy brown with head that fits a dimpleded mug perfectly. Nose is bubble gum and tootsie rolls, slight citrus. Flavour is strongly banana with roasted malts with a soapy finish of nutmeg and chalk. Very creamy in the mouth, like spoiled milk. Great appearence and mouthfeel, but the flavours we not there to support them.

This brown ale poured with a thin tan head that dissipated quickly. There is a pleasant port-like aroma. The flavor is of roasted malt, caramel and chocolate, with a raisin finish - very chewy. I found this to be an interesting and unique brew.

Chocolate, caramel, western hop aroma. Ruddy bottle brown, excellent label. Moderately sweet, but it gave the impression of dryness. Chalky, doughy, a bit leathery. Body is medium, finish is boozy chocolate and grass. An unusual beer to be sure, and it certainly grows on you. I’d have been hard pressed to put this into a Belgian pigeonhole.

Finally a pure essance beer. Organic ingredients, pure brewing techniques. A smooth tasting, highly malted, with flavors of caramel, and toffee.
