Fruity malty aroma. Raisiny, plum, fig notes. Fruity malty flavor. Apples and rasiins. Fruity and sweet. Finish is sweet. Medium bodied. Ok beer. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA

Brownish/red with a tiny head, even with a hard pour into a Karmelit glass. Aroma is big alcohol amd grape with some Belgian spices. Taste is fermented grapes and apples and pretty much wine like. Not very good but then again I havent had too many Belgian Strongs by USA brewers. I love North Coast but this falls way short of my liking. SDalkoholic (1196), Chula Vista, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 8, 2006 Appears as a watery mahogany color with no signs of foam wanting to form. The nose considering this is in the Belgian fashion is weak with little trace of yeast and spice. However, the flavor adds a open serving of sweet malty backbone and a heaping serving of dried fruits such as banana and raisins. Light touches of spice perhaps ginger or brown sugar that really sweeten things out. Alnmost resemblant to a juiced up sun tea.

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jun 8, 2006 Bottle. Quickly dying head, is this an old bottle? Aroma is light alcohol, plum, some spices. Taste is bready, very yeasty, with noticeable bananna. Spiciness is balanced, picks up and leaves a dry, slightly bitter finish. Slight oxidation all around. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 8, 2006 12oz bottle pours copper with a nice creamy tan head that stays pretty well and laces the glass some. Aromas of raisin, candi sugar, a touch of bubblegum, and some yeast. Flavor contains candi sugar, caramel, bubblegum, yeast, corriander, some raisin, and a little bannana. Interestingly complex. Medium bodied and not much carbonation. Finishes pretty dry with some warmth from the alcohol. Not bad TChrome (1299), Bedford, Texas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 5, 2006 Beer pours slightly cloudy orange amber color with a too quickly dissipating beige colored head. Aroma is fruity and estery with some bubblegum aroma as well. My knock on the aroma is that it seems trite rather than serious and refined as do the true Belgians. Flavor is better. A nice, really nice malt base goes along with the well placed yeast. The finish is dry as it should be. A good beer. nick76 (2675), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 4, 2006 The aroma is quite nice. There is yeast, dark fruit, floral hops, and brown sugar. The appearance is red/brown with a small head. The flavor is sweet, with bananas, herbs, and lightly roasted malt. The palate is ok. Overall it’s a good attempt at Belgian ale. nixter (11), Oakland, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 29, 2006 This delicious beer is brewed by North Coast Brewing Company for Whole Foods Markets. (along with Old Plowshare) Where NCBC’s other belgian styles have a apple-juicy flavor, Cru d’Or has strong pear aroma and flavor, with a tinge of peach. The yeasty fruitiness is well paired with a balanced, medium bodied, crisp and clean malt profile. This beer is great alone, and would also taste good with a soft, medium to mild cheese and a variety of pears. Highly reccomended.
