Commercial Description:
Originally brewed for Whole Foods. Belgian yeasts are legendary for the fruity flavor and floral bouquet they give beer. Hundreds are used by Belgian brewers and each is unique. Cru d'Or, a Belgian Style Abbey Ale is an homage to this magic ingredient and the result is a world class beer that is lush and profoundly aromatic with a warming finish. Being organic, Cru d'Or is brewed with the same reverence for pure ingredients as the Abbey and Farmhouse Belgian ales of the past. Delicious.

bought this at a distributor who in turn, I suppose, bought it at whole foods. None the less - a pretty good beer. Nice flavor and even better ak. %

(bottle - 12 oz) Rich and dark copper/ruby color with not much carbonation or head. Very light aroma of dark fruits, yeast, malts, and some caramel. Flavor begins very sweet and malty with hints of bubblegum, bananas, yeast, loads of malt, and some caramel at the end. Medium-bodied and very warming at the end. Thanks to Dave for a local trade.

Dark mahogany body and no head at all. Lightly peppery in the aroma, as well as some prunes and other spices. The flavor is somewhat thin-bodied overall, but it is not offensive in its blend of ingredients, with the exception of some strange banana esters in the finish. Highly fruity with honey, yet not-to-sweet. A decent contract brew for Whole Foods.

Cloudy amber/brown color, minimal head - caramel, plum and fig in the aroma - oily mouthfeel - yeasty, dough flavor at first, with a mild spiciness, almost like christmas cookies - some ripe red grapes and raisins - warming alcohol in the finish - pretty good for a beer designed for, and marketed towards, yuppies.

Bottle... Hazy, burnt orange ale with a small, fizzy, sand-colored head. Fruity, spicy nose... dark raisins, mild sassafras and ginger. Spicy, tangy flavor with clove, light lemon and a touch of chocolate. Good balance. Medium to full-bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Astringent finish.

Pours a filtered clear deep russet amber with athin and frothy white head tha leaves some appropriate lacing. The aroma is heavily spiced with ginger and corriander really standing out but there is a light smokiness as well with dark fruits and warming alcohol present. The body is rather thick for the style, probably all malt, and is lacking in CO2. The flavors are initially sweet, and has heavy dark fruits. Warming with a nice spiced character. Unfortunately the finish is not dry and the overall experience is not well balanced.

A sweet, slightly grape aroma. The color is an orangish copper, with a very thin head. The flavor had hints of raisins along with the Belgian yeasts. The finish was on the bitter side, but the mouthfeel was lighter than expected.

Bottle. Pours a rich caramel-copper body with a small off-white head. The aroma consists of cereal, bread, caramel, pears, and banana...and a touch of alcohol. Sweet, dusty yeast flavour and lots of fruit and spice. Alcohol warmth in the finish. Pretty solid though not spectacular. Purchased at Bello Vino, Ann Arbor in April 2006.
