Commercial Description:
Originally brewed for Whole Foods. Belgian yeasts are legendary for the fruity flavor and floral bouquet they give beer. Hundreds are used by Belgian brewers and each is unique. Cru d'Or, a Belgian Style Abbey Ale is an homage to this magic ingredient and the result is a world class beer that is lush and profoundly aromatic with a warming finish. Being organic, Cru d'Or is brewed with the same reverence for pure ingredients as the Abbey and Farmhouse Belgian ales of the past. Delicious.

Bottle. Pours a rich caramel-copper body with a small off-white head. The aroma consists of cereal, bread, caramel, pears, and banana...and a touch of alcohol. Sweet, dusty yeast flavour and lots of fruit and spice. Alcohol warmth in the finish. Pretty solid though not spectacular. Purchased at Bello Vino, Ann Arbor in April 2006.

Thabnks for sharing Mike! Deep aburn pour with little to no head and a slight beige ring around the edge that lasts a while. Lots of prune in the aroma with burnt caramel and burnt sugars, some plum, and very perfumey. Semi sweet burnt malt, lots of spiced fruit, and slightly yeasty flavours. Maybe a tad cloying. Still pretty good. Thanks mike!

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Pours a slightly hazy, dark amber with a small, off-white head. Malty, sweetish nose. Full-bodied with lots of caramel and roasted malt. Some almost sherry-like accents and a warming alcohol. No bitterness. A pleasant beer. Thanks to Degarth for sharing. 030406

Pours to a bright, ruby red color, with a soapy white head that fades, and a soft carbonation. The nose on this beer is inviting, with aromas of sweet malt, fruit and candy sugar. The palate is soft, with flavors of sweet malt, candy sugar, and some light estery fruit. Cru dOr finishes with more sweet malt, and fruit up front, then ends with some malty/candy sugar sweetness. A tasty little beer with good character, and one that hides the 8% abv well. I would peg this bee an abbey dubble, and while not the most impressive, domestic example, this is a beer I could see sipping, or enjoying with hearty foods, or rich deserts.

If you’re a fan of North Coasts’ brews, this little puppy is not to miss. As far as an American style Belgian Ale goes, this sweetheart is tops. Truly North Coasts only redeeming value in the eyes of a snob like myself.

A dark ruby color. Aroma is weak. I am hard on Belgian style brews and this one was a poo imitation. The flavor is reminiscent of a Belgian but cheap. Actually, the aftertast is a little disgusting. Pass on this one.

Aroma holds caramel malt and perfumey alcohol. Amber/brown with a quickly diminishing white head. Flavor is mild and has a perfumey quality to it along with the caramel malt and some bannan tinged yeastiness. Not bad, but not anything memorable either.

Pours a pretty dark red with a head that fades almost immediately. Spice, yeast and banana in the nose; very fruity. Notes of sweet caramel, toffee, plum, raisin, wood, banana, clove and pear. Sweet, with just enough hops to provide balance but...sweetness wins in the end. Full and round on the palate with lively soft-beaded carbonation. Good stuff.
