Commercial Description:
Originally brewed for Whole Foods. Belgian yeasts are legendary for the fruity flavor and floral bouquet they give beer. Hundreds are used by Belgian brewers and each is unique. Cru d'Or, a Belgian Style Abbey Ale is an homage to this magic ingredient and the result is a world class beer that is lush and profoundly aromatic with a warming finish. Being organic, Cru d'Or is brewed with the same reverence for pure ingredients as the Abbey and Farmhouse Belgian ales of the past. Delicious.

bottle poured into a trappist glass has a ruby brown color and a light tan head. aroma has sweet malt, raisin, plumb, and some funny sweet fruit perhaps green apple. mouth feel is light and the flavor has a mild sweet malted base. light spice, dark fruit, and some alcohol heat. has a certain bit of earth and again that apple sauce.

In short: A too sweet fruity basic Belgian amber ale. Very boring.
How: Bottle. Age unknown but probably relatively fresh. Tasting session with Montreal crew
The look: Clear amber body topped by an off-white ring of foam
In long: This very sweet (too sweet) fruity beer gave me an overall sensation of a fruit dessert of some kind. Berries and other red fruits, even some maraschino cherries. Toasted honeyed/caramelized malts with a pied crust flavour. Toffee develops as the beer warms up. Timid hopping to say the least. Carbonation is too soft which makes this overly sweet beer feel even heavier than it already is. Mostly bland beer and even a little offensive because of the uncontrolled sweetness with was more annoying than the overuse of exclamation marks!!!!!!

Poured with a nice big rust tinged, light brown head and no lace. Aroma was a very nice but fading orange on top of a malt with caramel. Flavor’s not bad with similar characteristics. Nice. Perhaps a bit thin in the mouth. Pronounced carbonation. Decent finish. Don’t notice the alcohol too much. Could almost be a session beer if you didn’t get too snockered. Brought this bottle back from Miami a couple months ago.

(Rating #2046)

Bottle. Did not pour it out of the bottle. This beer was very sweet, fruity, and yeasty. Not very complex and just way too sweet for my tastes. Meh.

Bottle. Caramel & fruity aroma. Poured mahogany brown with lasting beige head.Medium flavour, plum, malt and sugar notes. Rather thin finish for such a strong beer.

Bottle. Ripe fruit, plum aroma. Hazy dark amber body, small head. Pleasing moderately sweet flavor, with fruits and malt. A little restrained, and the finish is somewhat weak. Otherwise, a tasty brew.

Appearance: Dark leather brown with a 1/4 white ring around the top. Aroma: Belgian yeast, a little bit of bubble gum and plums. Taste: Sour bready yeast and a little bit of the bubble gum from the nose. Sweet cherry and dark bread crust. Ends very dry. Mouthfeel: Very carbonated and coating. Overall: A very simple offering, that has a few basic recognizable flavors, starts off a little sweet, ends dry. I appreciate the abv, and the simplicity. Its not a knock at all. This is worth a try, and relatively inexpensive.
