Commercial Description:
Originally brewed for Whole Foods. Belgian yeasts are legendary for the fruity flavor and floral bouquet they give beer. Hundreds are used by Belgian brewers and each is unique. Cru d'Or, a Belgian Style Abbey Ale is an homage to this magic ingredient and the result is a world class beer that is lush and profoundly aromatic with a warming finish. Being organic, Cru d'Or is brewed with the same reverence for pure ingredients as the Abbey and Farmhouse Belgian ales of the past. Delicious.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Pours a slightly hazy, dark amber with a small, off-white head. Malty, sweetish nose. Full-bodied with lots of caramel and roasted malt. Some almost sherry-like accents and a warming alcohol. No bitterness. A pleasant beer. Thanks to Degarth for sharing. 030406

Bright brown sugary colour. Rich brown sugar nose with light esters. Sweet sugars and caramel. The body is a bit on the thin side, but fairly sticky as well. There’s some nice tartness, to take a bit of the edge off the sweet. Sticky, brown sugar finish.

Cru d’Or Organic Belgian Style Ale
Beautiful amber color; poor head. Some malt and a lot of caramel; low bitterness, and without character, not really Belgian Style.

(12oz bottle) Small, quickly dissipating beige head atop a clear copper body. Aroma is moderately sweet, candi sugar, clove, some raisin, some liqueur, light melon. Taste is medium sweet, clove, earthy, some pepper, bubble gum, light alcohol. Medium body with light stickiness.

(Bottle) Pours a dark burgundy body with a small off-white head. Aroma of spicy yeast, dark fruits (raisins, dates), brown sugar, and Christmas spices. Flavor of malt, plum, raisins, and spices. Enjoyable!

12oz bottle acquired in trade with jimbowood (thanks!). Poured a deep and dark amber color (almost a reddish-brown) with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of fruits, light spices, and candi sugar. Tastes of sweet fruits, spices and has a candi sugar sweetness to it.

Hazy mahogany, charming coloured ale wearing a light off-white head. Unexpectedly, this comes across as a very sweet and toasty ale. Very strong sugary leanings paired with cinnamon leanings and the obvious alcohol for 8% make it more of a dessert beer. Plum-pudding flavours, cake and soft, dispersed big bubbles only confirm the direction undertaken. Above it all, a fat french toast and banana yeastiness does not make into subtlety either. Not what I expected, but still alright for what it is. I just tend to prefer more attenuation.
