Commercial Description:
Originally brewed for Whole Foods. Belgian yeasts are legendary for the fruity flavor and floral bouquet they give beer. Hundreds are used by Belgian brewers and each is unique. Cru d'Or, a Belgian Style Abbey Ale is an homage to this magic ingredient and the result is a world class beer that is lush and profoundly aromatic with a warming finish. Being organic, Cru d'Or is brewed with the same reverence for pure ingredients as the Abbey and Farmhouse Belgian ales of the past. Delicious.

Smells fresh and spicy. An 11. A nice red-brown color. This is a pretty tasty belgian strong, with noticeable dubble characteristics. The alcohol is there in the aftertaste and the head disappears too quickly, but pretty good overall.

Wonderful nose of dark fruit. I could sit and sniff it for hours. Nice tart forefront followed by rich dark fruit in the pallatte. Alcohol is nicely present.

A fairly strong tasting beer, with some initial plum notes that mellow into some coffee flavors. The hop flavors are not too pronunced. This beer wants something hearty flavored as a pairing and is awesome as part of a braise.

Finally a pure essance beer. Organic ingredients, pure brewing techniques. A smooth tasting, highly malted, with flavors of caramel, and toffee.

Pours to a bright, ruby red color, with a soapy white head that fades, and a soft carbonation. The nose on this beer is inviting, with aromas of sweet malt, fruit and candy sugar. The palate is soft, with flavors of sweet malt, candy sugar, and some light estery fruit. Cru dOr finishes with more sweet malt, and fruit up front, then ends with some malty/candy sugar sweetness. A tasty little beer with good character, and one that hides the 8% abv well. I would peg this bee an abbey dubble, and while not the most impressive, domestic example, this is a beer I could see sipping, or enjoying with hearty foods, or rich deserts.

This beer has a moderatley sweet flavor with a very smooth finish. Redish amber color and a thin foamy tan head. Slight Dubble Bubble (bubblegum) aroma.

Pours a three finger cream head that fades quickly leaving traces of lace. Cloudy dark amber color. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Molasses nose. Flavor is sweet baked molasses but not cloying. $2.50 for a 12oz bottle from Beverage Warehouse Winooski, VT.
