Dark and roasted, this one was a slight touch astringent. Nice bitterness to it, powerful bitter but the dark flavors are there too. Soy sauce and tangy dark, not so much roasted toasted dark, although it is both it’s much more baltic style dark. Good beer, and easy enough to find.

dark brown color, purplish highlights, fluffy tan head, cathedral lace. airy roasty malt nose, very mild. nice roasty malt, bread, hops and chocolate in the flavor. medium bodied, bitter finish. a pretty good stout with well balanced chocolate sweetness and hoppy bitterness. quite fun. single bottle from cardinal liquors in frankfort.

12oz bottle pours a deep reddish-brown with a thin tan head. Aroma has some sweet condensed milk and milk chocolate, along with a nice roasted malt undertone. Flavors are similar, with that creamy smooth milk quality pulling everything together. Coffee with a strong pinch of salt come through in the middle, followed by bitter dryness at the finish. This is a nice beer, simple and light in ABV. Smooth and balanced, not too shabby at all!

bottle, labelled best before jul 2006 probably by the danish importer. tasted oct 2009, to me, seems to be still fresh and totally unspoiled by age. Impressive!. dark brown, smooth small light brown head, nice lacing. chocolate, brown sugar most prominent in aroma. good quality chocolate aroma, mild aroma, very faint hoppy note to it. flavor is mild, roasted grains, licorice, expensive dark chocolate, faint flowery or fruity or perhaps honey note, a mild sweetness vs roast battle. ends more roasted.

pours very deep brown - almost black with a medium creamy tan head. aroma is slightly milky with dark fruits and a hint of coffee. flavor has roasty caramel and black malt, coffee, and bold citrusy hops without being overly bitter. mouthfeel is rich, creamy and very bubbly with a lingering roasty finish that thins out a bit in the end.

Bought as a 6-pack based on "best rating" at BevMo. Tight flavors up front, almost sweet for a stout, with a chocolate / coffee base that makes it very easy to drink. Black throughout, with a hint of red on the edges. Lingering smooth aftertaste. Great beer to celebrate the coming of Fall and cooler weather.

For a Dry Stout, this brew is exceptional. A faint chocolate covered raisins smell lifts from an everlasting head and delta mud color body. The flavor is better than usual for a dry stout, and makes you appreciate the substantial yet rather light head of Old No. 38 Stout.

On tap at the brewpub. Black in color with a decent tan colored head. The smell is coffee, roasty, malts, and chocolate. The taste is slight bitter, malts, roasty, and coffee. Ok.
