| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 23, 2007 Pours out a nice head that falls and leaves a strong lacing. The smell is chocolately with a little coffee. Smooth and inviting. Taste is bitter chocolate with a nice coffee aftertaste. This is the hoppiest stout I’ve ever had, but it is from the west coast. The hops even out the flavor as you drink. Feels smooth in the mouth. It’s a little different than the malty stouts I predominately try, but still very nice. badlizard (2373), Berkeley, California, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 22, 2007 Near black with a large deep tan head. Sweet roasted malts, molasses, coffee, chocolate, and soft sour dark fruits in the aroma. Flavor is a little on the harsh side. Intense roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, nutty, with the dark fruits nearly hidden. Nice body. A real nice stout, though maybe a tad harsh. Could use a little mellowing. DrPiva (90), Alabama, USA

Sweet/sour aroma of chocolate and hops. Metallic flavor at first sip, but then lots of bitter chocolate. Roasted coffee in the finish. Body is light for a stout. narticus (6), USA does not count | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 11, 2007 12 oz. from Riverside. Aroma allows nice floral notes to emerge from the chocolaty malts, though the aroma seems a little light. Beautiful appearance in the glass, with a stable one-finger dark tan head. Coffee, chocolate, a little nutty, but with some hops lingering nicely on the upper palate in the finish. A little light for a stout - if this were mislabeled as a porter, this would rate higher - and just a tad bit too carbonated. Overall a nice entry; the ’flaws’ are very minor, and there’s a lot of good stuff going on here.
