Commercial Description:
Seems hard to believe that we’ve been making Old Rasputin for 10 years now, but that’s what’s happened. And, to celebrate the occasion, we’ve brewed a special small batch that’s been aged for 9 months in some 12 year-old bourbon barrels. It’s bottled in 500 ml bottles with a cork and wired finish and a special commemorative label ---- and it’s amazing. The depth, intensity and complexity of the flavor profile make it a worthy tribute to this fine beer. Available at the brewery. XII is 11.2% ABV

Pitch black pour with a smooth brown head. Silky body with long lingering mix of chocolate, bourbon, and mild licorice. Mild alcohol shows throughout, but very enjoyable chocolate roasted flavors dont let the alcohol distract from the goodness of this.

Poured black with a tan head. Good carbonation. Strong boozy aroma with hints of malts, bready yeast, chocolate, and delicious bourbon. Taste was surprisingly mellow given the strong presence of boozy bourbon in the aroma. Notes of chocolate, malts, spice, and vanilla. Long-lingering alcohol bite after each sip. Lingering bourbon taste. Tasty, but wasn’t as intense as I had anticipated.

Very cool beer. Not one to drink fast though! Dark, dark brown with little head. Chocolate, vanilla, malt and bourbon aroma and flavors. Overall, a nice complex beer.

Much thanks to DMac. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Heavy bourbon on the nose, slight oak and some chocolate. Taste is complex, bourbon, slight vanilla, oak, chocolate and a slightly hot alcoholic finish. Well done

16.9 oz bottle, what the hell size is that?? Pours a deep dark brown that is slightly thin looking with an average size frothy light beige head. Aroma is great with tons of bourbon, oak, chocolate, coffee and perhaps a touch of vanilla. Medium bodied with average carbonation and STRONG heat from the 11.6% ABV. Flavor starts off with lots of bourbon, then roasted malts and chocolate take over and an aftertaste of vanilla. Very nicely done and is some real good stuff.

Thanks to iowaherkeye for sharing this bottle! Poured an opaque black color. The head was tan with good retention and lacing. Smelled of relatively subdued bourbon, chocolate, and vanilla. Medium to full bodied and sweet with mild bitterness. Roasted malt, moderate bourbon, vanilla, mixed spices, and chocolate filled out the flavor profile. Nice beer and not over-bourbonated, IMO.

Man I’ve wanted this one forever. Thanks joeyherkeye! Black pour with a good sized tan head. Aroma is BOURBON with some caramel as well. Flavor was BOURBON with burnt caramel, chocolate, and some dusty wood. Finishes very boozy, lots of sweet bourbon still floating around.

16.9 oz bottle. Ebony with a creamy tan head. Nose is bourbon, chocolate cake and dusty barrel. Medium body with a few prickles followed by a sinus clearing shot of bourbon. Taste is primarily bourbon but nicely balanced with chocolate, dark roast and a touch of licorice. Well brewed.
