Commercial Description:
Seems hard to believe that we’ve been making Old Rasputin for 10 years now, but that’s what’s happened. And, to celebrate the occasion, we’ve brewed a special small batch that’s been aged for 9 months in some 12 year-old bourbon barrels. It’s bottled in 500 ml bottles with a cork and wired finish and a special commemorative label ---- and it’s amazing. The depth, intensity and complexity of the flavor profile make it a worthy tribute to this fine beer. Available at the brewery. XII is 11.2% ABV

12. Really great - haven’t had a big beer like this in some time. Full and round, roasty, woody, chocolate, bourbon. Slightly hot. Really well carbonated for a BA beer.

Black with big, foamy brown head / Rich, deep nose of cigar box, chocolate, roast coffee, bourbon, oak and vanilla / Medium to full body, effervescent, with good balance and long finish / Flavors mirror the nose - cigar box, roast barley, semisweet chocolate, dark roast coffee, bourbon, vanilla, coconut, and oak / Overly aggressive carbonation a flaw, but otherwise excellent.

500mL bottle, 12th anniversary. Pours very deep brown, nearly opaque, capped with a moderate sized brown head. Roasted chocolate malt aroma, with licorice, cocoa, vanilla, and some alcohol. Flavor is fairly intense, with coffee, chocolate, dark fruit, molasses, vanilla, and bourbon. Alcohol is strong and the body is a bit thinner than I expected, but its still enjoyable.

XII Bottle from ditmier- Thanks!!! Pours a deep brown with a decent tan head. Good lookin beer. aroma of dark chocolate, figs, bourbon, cocoa, coffee. really comes alive as it warms. Flavor is tight. cream , bourbon, bitter chocolate, a slight hint of booze. alcohol is Very well hidden though. Nice smooth, sticky, creamy mouthfeel. Great all around beer. Quite enjoyable.

Tried side by side with regular old raspy. More coffee and bitterness in the regular version. Still good, but I prefer the barrel aged version fo sho and wish north coast would start selling the bourbon barrel old raspy around the country for the same price as regular raspy.

Bottle XII Pours a sturdy black with a good tan head. The head is frothy and lasting. It produces great lacing. Has a good aroma of bourbon barrels, roastness, alcohol, and some chocolate. Has a good carbonation. A nice alcohol burn which is good but not too much. The flavor is heavy bourbon but good. Well blended, hide the high abv well. Has good malts, and subtle stout tastes. The texture is a little on the dry side. Has a full body. The finish is good and the aftertaste sits nicely on the tastebuds. I was not sure weather or not to pick this one up because of the price but I am real happy I did. Well done.

Metro Tasting. XII. Poured black. Aroma was bourbon and roast. Taste was hot bourbon, roast, chocolate and more bourbon on the finish. A bit thin overall and too bourbon heavy for my preference.

Bottle on 08.21.09 with sneagrams and others. Pours dark brown with light amber head. Aromas of anise, toffee, slight bourbon, sweetness, and heavy alcohol. Tastes of heavy sweetness, wood, vanilla, slight bourbon and burns of alcohol, but is not harsh.
