Dark black with a brown head which isn’t as spectacular or long lasting as that of the original Rasputin. Aroma is mostly bourbon but a little lighter than some other BA stouts, which I actually prefer. A few hints of roasted malts shine through. Flavor is balanced but still showcases the bourbon character. Quite smooth and easier to drink than I expected. Very nice. kiefdog (1605), Tampa, Florida, USA

Pours a menacing, murky black color with one finger tan-yellow foamy head that settles slowly. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, oak, molasses, dark ripe fruits, toffee. Flavor is just as wonderful as the aroma. Lots of dark chocolate, light roast, toffee, bourbon, oak, vanilla, smoke, brown sugar, booze. Full body with a boozy, chocolate, light roast finish. Nice ale. Midnight black pour with a tall, dense brown foam head. Aroma is bourbon, oak, vanilla, molasses, roasted malt, dark chocolate and sweet malt. Taste is big bourbon, vanilla and oak atop molasses, caramel, sweet malt, dark chocolate, and alcohol warmth. Body is thick, chewy and warming with a dense, creamy carbonation.Ends much the same way it began - big bourbon, oak and vanilla with more molasses, dark chocolate, light coffee and roasted malt. Very nice! altonbrownd (1914), Amsterdam, Netherlands

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 27, 2009 Bottle thanks to smokepot23! XII Anniversary pours black with a bubbly tan head with decent lacing. Bourbon comes first in the nose, then some chalky cocoa, brownie cake and ash. Flavor has heavy bourbon and alcohol, also light chocolate, particularly in the finish. Palate is washed out from the alcohol, ends thin and dry. Bourbon really drowns most of the complexity, some vanilla coming in hints with the chocolate but unfortunately one-dimensional and washed out. mattmc1973 (305), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 26, 2009 Poured into a snifter. Black with frothy tan head. Aroma strongly of bourbon, sweet dark fruit, oak, and roasted coffee. Taste is medium sweetness, medium bitterness. Mouthfeel is creamy, slightly thin, oily, with soft carbonation. Overall, quite delicious! ruggedman (619), Portland, Maine, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 26, 2009 Aroma of dark chocolate, malts, oak, bourbon, and alcohol. Pors a really dark black with a light tan head frothy head. Flavors are dark chocolate, smooth bourbon, tons of dark malt, and actually I taste a lot of hops in the background of this beer. But at 11.2ABV and mountains of malt you cant really taste them too much. Super smooth mouthfeel, absolute luxury to drink. Overall this is much like the delicious regular raspy but even more yummy.
