whartonbrewer (30), , Pennsylvania, USA Mar 3, 2009 A great stout. Pours thick and rich - nose of chocolate and mahogany. Wonderful blend of smoky alcohol. Flavor is of burnt nuts. Great beer! Will be coming back for more. zapprentice (309), East Setauket, New York, USA Mar 2, 2009 Aroma strong of coffee. Chocolate and coffee power straight through the tongue. Gets more intense as it warms. Definitely a nice buy Noelweichbrodt (11), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Mar 1, 2009 From the bottle, I poured an inky black glass with a decent caramel head. Not a lot in the aroma, though I’ve been a little stopped up of late. But once it hits the mouth, man, a pounding of chocolate, hop, caramel & vanilla malts, smoke, oatmeal. What a way to go. Finish is smooth for a stout, let alone an Imperial stout, and leaves a nice lingering chocolate and vanilla in your mouth. angrypirate06 (678), Texas, USA Feb 28, 2009 Bottle. Smoky notes, with chocolate and coffee. Little to no head. Nice syrupy mouth feel. Tastes of smoke, chocolate and coffee. njbfr (105), New Jersey, USA Feb 27, 2009 Black as night with a thick tan head. Nose is sort of roasted oat malt, very pleasant. Extremely complex flavor with notes of roasted oat, chocolate, coffee with a very mellow bitter finish. Slight alcohol taste on the finish. Warming, which would be perfect for a cold night. Very impressive. BroSpud (583), , Massachusetts, USA Feb 25, 2009 12oz Bottle. $2.95 Julio’s Liquors. One of the better stouts out there. Nice dark velvety goodness. Very little alcohol taste despite a 9% ABV. Nebulor (109), , California, USA Feb 24, 2009 Lots of roasted malt smell, some molasses, with chocolate and coffee and has some hop esters in the aroma.
Pitch black color with maybe a hint of an amber hue (if you have the right glass), a tan sticky head, and too difficult to see anything else other than sediment in the bottom of the bottle.
Lots of chocolate, coffee, some molasses, and sweet roasted malt up front with pine, pine needles, and a hint of grapefruit and alcohol in the finish.
Full bodied, resinous and buttery, lively soft carbonation and a comfortable bitterness.
Been in my change up for a long time and has no burnt taste that is common with this style (could be a good thing), probably the best from North Coast Brewing.
jumpjet2k (135), Austin, Texas, USA Feb 24, 2009 Bottle. Pours a murky blackness with a small head that’s nice and dark as well. Aroma is nice and roasty and malty with a bit of dark fruitiness and sugar. Flavor is great - chocolate, coffee, tons of malt, and a pleasant small bitterness. Good thick mouthfeel. Everything you’d expect and want in an imperial stout.
