rwaters (27), Anchorage, Alaska, USA Jan 10, 2009 Pours black with a brown head. Chocolate/malty taste with a citrus finish. Overall a very good beer. gator2683 (133), Anchorage, Alaska, USA Jan 10, 2009 black with dark brown head, smoke and roasted chocolate malt in the aroma. its sweet and then bitter and smokey, with a cholate aftertaste noncaloric (601), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jan 9, 2009 Updated: Mar 8, 2009Black pour, large coffee-brown head, simmering down to a film and a respectable lace. Aroma is very chocolaty, ash also present. In the mouth, the chocolate and smoke finish is preceding by a highly fruity first impression, peaches dominate, some citrus, a little melon. Only flaw is a certain dis-harmony between the fruits and the dust on the finish. Full bodied, mildly effervescent. Delicious beer. beerthusiast (5), , Colorado, USA does not count Jan 8, 2009 Bottle from Total Beverage, solid black body, brown head but head retention and lacing was not good, light to medium body, had a weaker flavor than anticipated, on a good note this beer was very drinkable, overall decent brew but it was a let down. GMCC2181 (845), Bear, Delaware, USA Jan 6, 2009 Updated: Nov 3, 2009Bottle from robert at stateline. On tap as well from stateline....Its about black as black can get. Good toffee colored head that faded away. Aroma of coffee and roasted malts. Taste is coffee, lots of roasted malt, dark chocolate and maybe even some dark fruits. Texture is rich, not thick though. Almost oat like. Overall a good beer. Price wise I dont think there is a better impy out there.... Thanks Robert! bradlyc77 (226), Sebastopol, California, USA Jan 5, 2009 Pours black with 2 finger brown head. Nice lacing. Tastes of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and toasted sugar, with some hints of raisin/dates and dried cherries. Sweet and malty, minor alcohol flavor but not overpowering. A complex and quite enjoyable brew. hoppopotamus (182), Santa Cruz, California, USA Jan 4, 2009 Pours a jet black with a small tan head that leaves lace. Aroma is obviously roasted malt dominated, with accents of chocolate, coffee, alcohol, and even some oak and licorice. The flavor is a more chocolatey sweet roasted flavor, with a lingering aftertaste of dark chocolate. Delicious taste, even better aroma! pjweaver (133), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 4, 2009 Glass from bottle.
Pours a pure black color, with a mocha colored head. Aroma is remarkable, dark chocolate, espresso, currants, booze, toasty malts. Boozy flavor with tons of chocolate and coffee, hints of red fruits, sweet and warm. Good overall beer....(did a blind tasting of this beer at a 7/3/6/3/14 3.3, but I think i was pretty shit faced at that point.)
