BeerBunker (607), Burbank, Illinois, USA Dec 13, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours black with a heavy brown head. Decent carbonation. Aroma is of roasted malt, chocolate, syrup, and hops. Taste is spicy hops, with a heavy roasted malt backbone. Notes of chocolate, dark fruits, syrup, and alcohol. Very dry finish, with a nice hop bitterness. The body is very light, with a very dry and light mouthfeel. This beer may seem light in mouthfeel, but its far from bad. Its exceptionally drinkable. This is one stout I could consider a session beer. I could easily knock these back all day. Has everything a good stout needs, but isnt a sipper. luttonm (275), Belgrade, Serbia Dec 12, 2008 Bottle. What a classic, with the perfect name. look up the legend of Rasputin if you dont know it. heavy, sharp nose. deep sharp taste .. in your face and wonderful sweet sticky that is average to the abv. not extreme but a great imp. stout. anytime anywhere. BruceLeroy (76), North Dakota, USA Dec 9, 2008 A hint of olive in the aroma. Taste is great. This is the best stout I can remember drinking in a long time. I found this on sale, I’m glad I picked it up. THE PERFECT HEARTY BEER FOR A COLD SNOWY NIGHT. Dark chocolate finish. Outstanding and impressive. Definitely a new favorite of mine. Miksu (2187), Jyväskylä, Finland Dec 7, 2008 0.355 l bottle. Black color with creamy long lasting head. Sweet and roasty aroma with salty licorice, coffee, chocolate, leather and flowery hops. Bittersweet and roasty flavor with bitter chocolate, charcoal, salty licorice, wood and lemony-flowery-mentholy hops. Soft oily palate. Very tasty and the house character of North Coast comes nicely through. However, I think this woud be even better with less hop aroma and flavor. scoth (267), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Dec 7, 2008 Bottle. Pours almost completely black and viscous, with a big two-finger dark tan head, good lacing. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and caramel. Thick velvety body. Prounounced dark chocolate flaovr with plenty of coffee, and some caramel. Well balanced. A truly fine example of the style. DuffMan (2721), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Dec 6, 2008 Pours black with a khaki head of fine bubbles leaving delicate lace for the first third of the glass. Aroma of prunes chocolate liqueur with mineral and lactic notes. Heavy mouthfeel. Bitter chocolate and stewed fruits with notes of coffee bean and burnt malt and licorice. Soundly bitter finish of long length. Undertones of warming alcohol. Solid. trevor211 (500), Seattle, Washington, USA Dec 1, 2008 Pours black, with a bit of transparency around the edges and a beautiful tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, oak and roasty malts. In the flavor, though, the fruit disappears behind dark chocolate and burnt coffee, with some hops showing through as well. This one is every bit as big and thick as I wanted it to be, but that fruit in the aroma is throwing me off - it’s a note I don’t think meshes well with the rest of the beer. Other than that, great brew - clean, dry palate (despite its thickness), and a very robust flavor. EricE (446), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Nov 30, 2008 Pitch black pour with a dark tan head. Nice lacing on the glass. Alcohol aroma with berries and sour lactic notes. Very chocolaty flavor with lots of coffee. Lots of roastiness. Mostly bitter, but theres a little sweetness as the beer first hits your tongue. A little bit of sourness. Some hops to finish. Not bad.
