curly (548), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Sep 28, 2009 Pours solid black with a thick brown head. Aroma is sweet milk chocolate, toffee, and some smokey roast malt. Taste is rich dark chocolate and some wood undertones. Thick creamy texture and alcohol is warming in the nose. After letting sit for a while the beer thins out and more coffee and roast flavors are present. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 27, 2009 12 oz bottle - had many times, but time for a proper rate; bases on my purchase, guessing this bottle is around a year old; pours clear dark brown with thick, chocolate head; just a beauty; thick roast and chocolate on the aromas; sweetness is upfront; bitter coffee, creamy roasted malt; light, chocolaty, texture with super dry finish; very nice, but the underling thinness is what knocks this down a little bit and IMO keeps it from the ranks of impys like expedition Frovigalning (383), , Sweden Sep 27, 2009 It poured a pitch black liquid with a small light brown foam that left no lacing. IT had a sweet smell of chocolate. It had a complex taste of chocolate, soy sauce, spices and a warm alcoholic finish. Smooth and very nice. neepsntatties (280), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 26, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Colour... mahogany with no head at all. Nose... sharply malty, roasted coffee, anise, hops. Palate... creamy and coating, moderate carbonation, bitter chocolate, strong coffee, licorice, biting hops and a very long bitter finish. If I were a czar, I’d want this every day! almopina (87), Madrid, Spain Sep 24, 2009 Never tried an Imperial Stout before. Amazing experience. Full-bodied... just the way I like beer. DrSamPHD (60), Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA Sep 23, 2009 Pours a dark black with a medium sized brown/beige head that seems to linger for a bit. The aroma is great, a mix of alcohol, chocolate, and coffee. Complex to say the least. The taste is even more complex. A balanced mixture of chocolate, coffee, hops, wood, and some roasted malts coming through. The taste remains for some time, and the finish is warm and perfect. What a great beer, truly an American masterpiece. EvilKingWilson (11), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Sep 23, 2009 one of my all time favorite imperial stouts. Nice brown head, tasted lots of chocolate and a little coffee. very pleasing to my taste buds Hopper (271), San Antonio, Texas, USA Sep 22, 2009 A dark black beer with a nice tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, & roastedness. The taste is roasted chocolate cake, creamy, with a lot of flavors that goes down very smooth. Goes great with brownies.
