jredmond (1015), New Jersey, USA Jun 4, 2008 Bottle. Pours pitch black body with small tan lacing. Tobacco and alcohol in the aroma. The taste is alcohol and roast. toncatcher (228), Santee - SAN DIEGO, California, USA Jun 3, 2008 Pours black with a tanish head. Aroma of malt, coffee, chocolate, some dark fruit. Flavors of bitter coffee, chocolate, with some bittersweet malt. spork2123 (1), red bank, New Jersey, USA does not count Jun 2, 2008 Bottle. Lush black body with a thick creamy head. Good chocolate and coffee nodes. Dry hops and alchol on the finish...I love California Ceebs25 (217), Naperville, Illinois, USA Jun 1, 2008 bottle. great looking and smelling beer. pleasantly fresh malty, mocha, coffee, dry aroma. very dark brown-black opaque color, perfect one inch of dark cream bubbly head on the pour, sticks around, nice lacing. taste starts off smooth and sweet, some alcohol evident, doesnt finish as smooth, rich coffee, chocolate in the end, not bad, but the lingering rich malty dark chocolate aftertaste just doesnt quite do it for me. still, not bad at all, just wish it tasted as good as it looked and smelled. phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jun 1, 2008 It pours a deep oak coloured body with decent lacing all the way down. It almost tastes like a rich cappucino, except the head isn’t as frothy. Aromas of some sort of coffee drink, mocha, smoke. Mouthfeel is full and cremay with noticeable oak. Finishes slightly bitter with caramel notes. djones (116), Michigan, USA Jun 1, 2008 Jet black with a large creamy khaki colored head that lasted. Coffee taste dominates, with hints of chocolate, smoke, and molasses. Alcohol is very well hidden in this very malty beverage. Finishes dry with a lingering coffee/chocolate aftertaste, very pleasant. petermadsen (391), Vesterbronxxx, Denmark May 31, 2008 Hmm. Black and moderate in most ways, considering it’s an Imp. A bit more on the roasty side than the hoppy... admiralzork (1), USA does not count May 31, 2008 I had my first taste of this at the North Coast brewery itself (in Fort Bragg, CA), while passing through on vacation. Love that dark color. The moderate maltiness balances out the bitterness well. Kind of rough, like a new wine, but overall a great beer. I’m pleased to find that I can get it on tap not too far from here.
