Pours black opaque with hints of brown and an enormous long-lasting creamy beige head. Very roasted malt aroma, notes of coffee and some spicy hops. Very smooth mouthfeel. Some vanilla and oak flavor, but very dry and bitter finish.

Deep black, but if you stick your eye in the glass, you’ll see a dark brown/red tint to the edges. Little head, the lacing is odd, almost invisible - like a barely visible jellyfish. Strong alcohol (brandy/liquer) aroma that is also present above all flavors. Really strong coffee (like espresso) flavors, a tiny bit of anise, dry roasty finish - there’s got to be a big hop addition to this. I’m gonna need a Michelob Ultra to wash out the insanely strong flavors of this one!!! (ha ha, as if i’d subject myself to THAT monstrosity again) Crit (2409), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada

The pour was thick and dark brown (dark brown edges, no mahoganey noted) with a substantial head that gave a great lacing while drinking. Aroma was burnt chocolate/coffee with slight hops. Flavor was the same with a touch of a vinous/prune alcohol accent. Bitterness from the hops AND the burnt coffee. Mouthfeel was moderate, but not as thick as other impy stouts. Pretty drinkable. Re-rate of the millenium edition, april 06 at statelineliquors.com. Certainly loses the mouthfeel, but a dry cocoa, dusty, and light roast remain, this actually quite pleasant and soft after some seven years, although not as rich and complex as when fresh.
