Aroma is very intense with burnt roasted malt, dark choclate, raisins, dark fruit and molasses. The body is flat black and holds a diminishing thumb thick mocha head. Fore is burnt bitter yet raisin sweet with gobs of dark chocolate backing up the sweet fruit notes. They combined to give an almost cherry like flavor. Mouthfeel is delightful. Rich and filling, but bracing from the alcohol. Still a winner!

Another beer I forgot to rate. This is the kind of Imperial Stout I enjoy. Many tend to go too far with the hops, but Rasputin manages to be big without being one dimensional. It is roasty AND sweet with a sort of burnt coffer and baker’s choclate profile. Good stuff. blutt59 (2147), Dallas, Texas, USA

Unfortunately, there is nothing too spectacular to remark upon. Pours dark brown, with a thin tan head. Aroma is of roasted chocolate, sweet malts, and molasses. Flavor is of dark fruits, molasses, sugar, and roasted chocolate. Thin-bodied. Reminds me of Left Hand Imperial Stout; all of the elements of a superior Imperial are here, yet they are not exploited to full potential. Second-tier material. zach8270 (2129), Henrietta, New York, USA

Roasted malt and chocolate/coffee aroma. Very strong flavor at the start of chocolate and malt which gives way to a warm alcohol middle and a nice bitter coffee finish. bager (2121), Copenhagen N, Denmark

I’ve had this before years ago and the one I just drank was just as good as I remembered it. Deep, dark color with a creamy, brown head and aroma of sweet roasted grains. Sweet caramel, brown sugar with a buttery smoothness that finishes with a nice coffee bitterness. The alcohol warms you with out even noticing it. Very good sipping beer on a cold night. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 22, 2004 Bottle. uh, this aroma is amazing! Big coffee presence and loads of roasted malts. pitch black with a small off-white head. The flavour is to die for, this is a big complex beer. Tons of bittersweet chocolate. velvetty-smooth texture. The roastiness lingers for a few minutes after drinking. This is a phenomenal beer. I’d sure like to get some more of this.
Thanks to mustang3 for the bottle!
