Roasted malt and chocolate/coffee aroma. Very strong flavor at the start of chocolate and malt which gives way to a warm alcohol middle and a nice bitter coffee finish. Thick, chalky light tan head. Mostly burnt sugar and port wine in the aroma with hints of leafy hops and mud. Very airy, as well. Fluffy palate. Very airy which detracts from the body and overall rich malt flavors. Finishes quick and unintense, but respectably charred malty and earthily hopped. Rasputin was a much more fierce fellow than this portrays him to be. Sure it's got a thick lasting head, but an Imperial needs bronze foam and a completely opaque body to receive a 4 or 5 for appearance. Also a very thin palate and devoid of any burnt malts or rich espresso, mocha, etc. in the aftertaste. PhillyBeer2112 (2087), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jan 16, 2001 I found this to be an unusually
highly hopped Imperial Stout. I
detected a bit of hop flavoring as well.
The big bodied malt flavor is
of course dominant. Chewy and
memorable. Luscious reddish tinted
black color. SSSteve (2066), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 24, 2006 Pours black with a dark tan head - it looks like oil with a beer head. Aromas is sweet with dark chocolate, cream and light roast. Full bodied beer with soft carbonation. Initial taste has rich malt, dark chocolate and a pleasant roast character. Finish brings a spruce-like hoppiness to the beer. Hard to believe the ABV is 9%, it is very well hidden. Excellent imperial stout. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 1, 2004 Midnight black with a creamy mocha colored head that is held back by the alcohol content of this beer. Nice coffee, chocolate, and malt aromas, with a sweet, toasty, palate. It hides it's alcohol very well until you quit sippin' and try to stand up. Very well crafted and satisfying Imp Stout. kook (2034), Perth, Western Australia, Australia
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Aug 27, 2005 Black with a creamy brown head. Mild chpcolate and roast aroma. Flavour is great, melded chocolate, roast coffee, nutty caramel. Finish has a long citrusy grapefruit flavour. Silky smooth oily mouthfeel. Good stuff. bitbucket (2034), Kirkland, Washington, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 16, 2006 Bottled. Pours nearly opaque with a lacy tan head. Aroma with notes of molasses, coffee, raisins and chocolate. Nicely rounded creamy body with medium to light carbonation. Taste starts rather sweet with roasty malt and chocolate, then raisins and espresso. The hops take over for a smokey bitter finish. There’s plenty going on in this beer and all of it is good.
