Totally black color, no highlights. Light carbonation and light-medium bodied. Roasted coffee nose. Flavor is nearly sweet coffee, with a burnt coffee finish, not bad but not enough beef for a RIS. $2.50 for a 12oz bottle from Beverage Warehouse Winooski, VT. theisti (1684), Leawood, Kansas, USA

Aroma is malt and a touch of chocolate. Initial taste is an explosion of flavors. Full body, creamy, malty and ends with hops. Get some roast coffee, licorice and bittersweet in there too. Many layers of taste with this one, and it has a great dry bitter finish. Another rater mentioned this, but the uniqueness of this one for me is the HUGE flavors that somehow all cooperate together in a well balanced, smooth mix. sloth (1678), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA

Poured nearly black with a huge light brown head that you could eat with a spoon. You could search the world for great Imperial Stouts and this one is made right here in my backyard in Northern California. Massive nose of roasted malts, chocolate, yeasts and fruit, among others. Flavor is all of the above with hops now showing up. Mouthfeel is like a rich syrup, and you can sense the alcohol. Down the pipe it is good to the very last drop and never bitter. This is the standard all other Imperial Stouts should aspire to measure up to. Not just, good, but great. Update: I wondered if this would be better if it warmed up some.. Conclusion. No difference. Warm or cold, this stuff is incredible. Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 6, 2005 Black with a huge fluffy beige head. Bitter coffee aroma with some rosted malt. Initial taste is similar but fades to a sweet chocolate toffee that almost masks the coffee. Finishes dry bitter coffee.
