Malt, hops, licorice and alcohol are found in the aroma. Taste is just as the aroma previewed. Reminds me of Heavyweight’s (NJ) Perkunos Hammer Imperial Porter. Finishes with a bite. Not my style. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Nov 29, 2002 Pours a very dark black with a modest light tan head. Aroma of molasses and coffee. The body is sweet, thick and oily with a roasted chocolatey finish. The alcohol is very apparent throughout. In fact if I didn’t know, I’d swear this was stronger than the DFHWWS 18%. Apart from its evidence of alcohol, this is a good brew. hopscotch (5507), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 4, 2002 This beer rocks. The nose is one of alcohol and espresso. Very intense beer with a shade and consistency as black and thick as Mississippi mud. Pleasantly surprised by the dry finish. Bov (5478), Bienne, Switzerland

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 14, 2003 Quite big and complex. Roasty, licorice aroma, with more hops in the aroma than i expected, quite aromatic. The palate is quite thick and roasty, with some licorice and raisins, with quite a few hops to finish, the finish is even a bit citric. Nice bitter finish. JorisPPattyn (5187), Antwerpen, Belgium
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 20, 2006 Draught Virtually black beer; small, typically nitrokeg head, brownish. Piney, resiny, faint licorice, drop , roasted malts, and cheese covered fruit - in a nice way, if you can believe that. And a few cups of stark coffee, of course. WOW - sweet, bitter, roasted and all in perfect balance. Smoked, ashes, biscuits, coffee. But especially the balance says it all. Full bodied, (too) smooth because of the nitro, leaves a certain slickness. At least as good, if not better than remembered from the bottle. Even if it’s a bit USA-lopsided, it has an impressive balance. Again gotten from a girl: after lovely Joelle from Austin, now from the star server at Beveridge Place, Seattle. I hope they don’t see Rasputin in me? Did I shave? ThomasE (5178), Copenhagen, Denmark
