Sweet malt aroma, dried fruit and hint of coffee also. Full bodied with a dry finish. Roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, licorice flavors. Complex. Excellent. --[rerate-12/04/06]-->Black black/brown edges. 1.5" of dense yet frothy tan head. Nose of roasty malt, resinous hops, burnt mocha, and subtle dark dried fruits and anise. Same flavors with some marshmallow like sweetness. Palate is full, but light in weight. Carbonation is balanced. Very drinkable for an imperial stout. Excellent. Allen (1425), Switzerland

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 27, 2009 12 oz bottle - had many times, but time for a proper rate; bases on my purchase, guessing this bottle is around a year old; pours clear dark brown with thick, chocolate head; just a beauty; thick roast and chocolate on the aromas; sweetness is upfront; bitter coffee, creamy roasted malt; light, chocolaty, texture with super dry finish; very nice, but the underling thinness is what knocks this down a little bit and IMO keeps it from the ranks of impys like expedition Bullit (1392), Glasgow, Scotland

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 5, 2009 Nearly a top-tier RIS. Pours black with a legitimate tan head. Roasted malt on the aroma. Fairly oily palate (yet not as much as some of the big RISes) with flavors of chocolate and coffee, some dark fruits, and a sweet alcoholic finish. Makes you miss the good ol’ USSR. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 12, 2007 Very great aroma with notes of roastiness. Coffechocs and freshness with a wonderful darkbrown and creamy head. Flavor is a challenging mix of sticky bitterness, complexy ingredients in a well balanced brew, containg tar, wood, smothness, that tastes better and better for every time you sample it. iwantalambic (1389), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 14, 2002 Nice big aroma with chocolate, figs, alcohol and coffee. A flavour that makes you drool when you’re done: full cherries, roasted malts and coffee. Raisins and other fruits finish off a great imperial stout.
