| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 5, 2009 Nearly a top-tier RIS. Pours black with a legitimate tan head. Roasted malt on the aroma. Fairly oily palate (yet not as much as some of the big RISes) with flavors of chocolate and coffee, some dark fruits, and a sweet alcoholic finish. Makes you miss the good ol’ USSR. Carbonation was pretty evident. A very nice creamy mouthfeel. very quality imperial stout and extremely good value. JFGrind (1353), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA

Poured black, Good tan head, rich and creamy and fizzy. Leaves nice lacing as it settles. Aroma of coffee and raisins and caramel, and slight licorice too. First taste is roasted chocolate malt. Very pranouced and enjoyable. Them comes the dates and licorice. Dry finish, which I enjoy greatly. This black liquid is a treat to all dark brew lovers, seek this out and enjoy. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 23, 2004 Nice black pour. Moderate amount of surprisingly light head that dissipates very quickly. Aromas of raisins, alcohol and cough syrup (somehow, not a bad thing) and a bit of dark roast. Body is much dryer than the aromas led me to expect, and very dry for an Imp Stout. Lots of roasty astringency. Taste is amazingly complex... Roasts, carmel, raisins, port, carbon. Wow! A terrific beer, and just the thing for December.
