The aroma is fruity, but not too sweet, with an underlyting malty scent. The flavor is chocolatey mixed with burnt coffee, and fruity hops. Strong alcohol presence. Good good good.

Chocolate, coffee, and fruit both in the aroma and flavor. The roasted barley comes out in the flavor as well. A great fireside quaff. jbrus (4905), Delft, Netherlands

Low carbonation with average head. Smells of chocolates and coffee, a malty bitter smell of a true imperial stout. FULL of flavors. I would have to drink 100 of these to find all the different flavors. My favorite beer at the moment. Rerate DowngradeNot as rich as I remember, but still thick and complex. Still yummy though. chriso (4852), London, Greater London, England
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 21, 2004 Deep ruby/brown colour. Not that dark for a stout. Low carbonation. Treacle accented, coffee essence flavour. Burnt malt and chocolate to go with the coffee in the flavour. The alcohol is well hidden. Nice, but not outstanding. Bottled.

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 30, 2004 Bottle - Complex aroma of coffee, chocolate and fruit. Appearance was perfect. Black hue with large tan creamy head that lasted to the finish. Full bodied flavor and finish that was consistent with all the aroma. The complete stout in a bottle. Thank you North Coast. anders37 (4792), Malmö, Sweden

| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 7, 2004 Bottled - bought at Happy Deli NYC. What can I say but wow!? The best beer I've had since joining this website. It has a vinuous smell with hints of coffee and licquorice. It is beautifully black with that off white head typical of the best stouts. the taste is warming, vinuous, roasty, alcoholic and extremly well-balanced. A fantastic beer which tastes stronger than 8.9% but at the same time invites you to have another (If only I'd bought another).
