It pours dark brown, almost black with a hint of red coloration in the bright light and a thick dark tan head. Extremely rich roasted malt and alcohol aromatics. Thick roasted malts, burnt chocolate, coffee flavors penetrate deeply on the palate. Creamy and rich mouthfeel. A malty & robust stout, well balanced. Complex and complete. An excellent Imperial.

Very strong tasting porter, dominant chocolate flavor with a little coffee. Very smooth and thick to palate, almost mildly syrupy. Definitely oen of my favorites. mongkut4 (132), Florida, USA

I’ve tried to compare this to the Stone sister brew and this one comes up on top. Nice balance and thick as a milkshake. Dark as my soul and amazing dark chocolate/coffee aroma. This one truly is more like eating a big, beautiful dense loaf of dark, sweet bread. Amazing, amazing, amazing!!! wnhay (722), Princeton, New Jersey, USA

Fantastic espresso appearance. The creamy head makes it all the worth while. The aroma is highly complex. It has a unique chocolate cherry, plus espresso, flavored coffee, toffee, malts and hops. The taste is unreal. You get chocolate rasberry, strawberry, chocolate, espresso, coffee, cherry malts and hops. There is some vanilla and wafer in it as well. This beer is exquisite and priced well. I highly recommend it. foundmd (163), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

Pours pitch black with a nice tan head. Pleasing aroma with flavors of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, and a hint of dark fruit and toffee. Very nice on the palate with medium astringency. The nose on this beer is incredible. Huge waves of dark chocolate, espresso, licorice, vanilla, roast, piney hop aroma, and peppery alcohol flood the nose. The palate is massive on this beer, just jam packed with intense and robust flavors. Dark chocolate, sweet malt, vanilla, licorice, and coffee coat the tongue. This beer is full and comforting on the tongue as it gently glides down the throat. Old Rasputin finishes with more big, robust coffee and licorice up front, then ends with a roasty, bitter, very warming, soothing, high octane burn.
This beer is a world class example of Imperial Stout, and one of my all time favorites. Imperial stouts make a fantastic after dinner drink, or night cap, truly a beer to slowly sip and savor. Their intense, and complex flavors also make them ideal desert beers. ghstride83 (4), Hemet, California, USA does not count | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 5, 2006 One of the great ones. Dark robust flavor. One that will mess you up on a empty stomach. That’s good stuff for me. Aroma doesn’t smell anything of fruit, but more to a maple walnut to me.
