Very full body, bursting with flavour, one of the best stouts I’ve had. Tmoney99 (4740), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 30, 2004 Bottle - Complex aroma of coffee, chocolate and fruit. Appearance was perfect. Black hue with large tan creamy head that lasted to the finish. Full bodied flavor and finish that was consistent with all the aroma. The complete stout in a bottle. Thank you North Coast. Pours deep black with a big tan head and lace. Aroma of dark chocolate, malt, coffee, and licorice. Tastes very malty, with a sweet, somewhat heavy mouthfeel. Finishes malty, with some coffee, chocolate, hops, and fruit. Well hidden alcohol. A very nice stout.
2/1/06: I’m kicking this up two notches, one each for palate and overall, after having it on nitro draft tonight at McGregor Draft House in Cary, NC. It was smooth as silk, and notably better than the bottle version. biznizness (935), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA

That was back before me start drinking man stouts like Old Rasputin. Now, me can’t get enough of hearty roasted flavor, hoppy bitterness, and high alcohol content. Me think Guinness kind of girly anymore, me prefer something a little rougher. Me love the Old Rasputin though, and me can't wait to get me hands on a six. masedawg (156), Statesville, North Carolina, USA

Full body palate that fills the mouth for a good while. Worth having. brianprentiss (475), Portland, Oregon, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 22, 2007 Dark dark brown color - nearly black - with about 1/4 inch of medium brown head made of incredibly small bubbles. A bit of spotty lace throughout the glass, more if you swirl it a bit. Sweet roasted grain aroma, with some molasses and maybe some dark rum also noticeable.
Wham - the taste hits hard. Intensely bitter from the roasted grain - like thick old strong coffee. Just a bit sweet and alcoholic like a black russian. Some oily hop bitterness sneaks through for balance. Faint tart plum with bitter chocolate. More coffee with molasses. Lightly carbonated and very thick.
