The rosy aroma is of dark cherries and chocolate. The bitter chocolate manages to predominate the first swallow, but looming in the background is a tangle of alcohol, espresso and even some dry hop grassiness. This is a complex and interesting stout, worthy of its high ratings. (#2764, 3/31/2007) skortila (2905), Bunnik, Netherlands

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 20, 2003 Poured out of bottle, purchased at Trader Joe's in Sherman Oaks, CA, 7/20/03. Tight, slight head that lingers moderately with excellent lacing; Pours to a deep cola dark brown color, with a deliciously subtle, decadent, dark/sweet chocolate scent. Initial taste is of dark roasted malts, sweet chocolate, and espresso-- a little bit zingy feeling on the tongue and a little bit spicy. Wonderful medium body and smooth mouthfeel with bright, slightly sour expansion and long, smooth finish of dark chocolate malt. Fantastic stuff, this is delicious before you drink it, as you drink it, and long after you finish it. Nice, warming feeling on the stomach, but not hindered by any overbearing alcohol taste-- the little bit of bite could be alcohol or perhaps simply other spices, but it works remarkably well with the overall palate. One of the great ones. An extraordinarily great, well-balanced imperial stout that even non-stouties should fall in love with. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Big coffee presence and loads of roasted malts. pitch black with a small off-white head. The flavour is to die for, this is a big complex beer. Tons of bittersweet chocolate. velvetty-smooth texture. The roastiness lingers for a few minutes after drinking. This is a phenomenal beer. I’d sure like to get some more of this.

The alcohol is very well hidden, to well sometimes, three imperial pints later I stood up and was a little surprised by it 123456green (46), houston, Texas, USA
