Poured a black with rich tan head, very good retention. Aroma was great, nice fruity notes and dark malt, coffee. Flavor was sweet, dark roast, coffe, and nice alcohol spice with a nice bitter....This was a nicely balanced Imperial.....Impressive........Nice full body, not too heavy....low carbonation....very nice bitter......A very nice, strong stout!!!!! Good Shit!!!! I’m shocked I never had this before.......
mybestfriend (226), Gothenburg, Sweden Jul 6, 2008 Bottle. Pours a black colour with a beige-brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate, american hops and liquorice. The flavour begins with a nice sweetness. Very roasted - coffee beans, liquorice and dark and bitter chocolate. The finish is dry with a fair amount of bitterness with some nice of black pepper. Nice! derekbang (60), Indiana, USA Jul 5, 2008 Decent stout but didn’t blow my hair back. Very dark - nice appearance. Palate was fairly thick but not quite the oily viscosity of the truly great stouts. Flavor was good but not really that memorable either. It has the typical imperial stout flavors but none really stood out more than others to me. I will likely try this one again and revisit my rating. Jury is somewhat still out. Boliv (136), New York, USA Jul 2, 2008 Bottle. Pours thick and dark brown with a large foamy brown head that takes a long time to recede. Roasted chocolate malt aroma with sweet figs and dates and some slight alcohol. Initially bitter, it moves to a sweet warming middle before a bitter/tangy hop finish with espresso and cocoa. Smooth and creamy. pintbypint (871), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 29, 2008 12 fl oz brown bottle. Deep brown/black colour, opaque. Holds a nice tan cap throughout the glass. Sweet malt aromas combine with coffee and chocolate. Inital taste is sweet chcoolate malts, a decent level of citrusy hop flavours. Finishes with a trace of alcohol, lots of roast and some citrusy bitterness. Low carbonation, creamy full mouthfeel. Great drinkable and balanced impy. enginaaron (19), San Diego, California, USA Jun 27, 2008 Overall wasn’t impressed. Very long-lasting, creamy head that was quite tasty, and it was strong without an alcohol taste, yet it just lacked an over-the-top roasted/hoppy flavor characteristic of imperial russian stouts. Seemed more like a strong british dry stout than an IRS. Very little aroma, no development on the palate, bland flavor, not terribly impressed.
