rlgk (3241), Motala, Sweden Oct 3, 2004 Updated: Nov 11, 2005 Black. Great balanced aroma with nuts, malt, toffee and hops. Flavor is nutty and malty with a vinous feeling. Vanilla and cream notes. Also hoppy and with a nice bitterness in the finish. Defineatly one of the best beers I have tried.
GMCC2181 (553), Bear, Delaware, USA Jan 6, 2009 Bottle from robert at stateline. Its about black as black can get. Good toffee colored head that faded away. Aroma of coffee and roasted malts. Taste is coffee, lots of roasted malt, dark chocolate and maybe even some dark fruits. Texture is rich, not thick though. Almost oat like. Overall a good beer. Thanks Robert! bradlyc77 (99), Sebastopol, California, USA Jan 5, 2009 Pours black with 2 finger brown head. Nice lacing. Tastes of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and toasted sugar, with some hints of raisin/dates and dried cherries. Sweet and malty, minor alcohol flavor but not overpowering. A complex and quite enjoyable brew. hoppopotamus (99), Brooklyn, New York, USA Jan 4, 2009 Pours a jet black with a small tan head that leaves lace. Aroma is obviously roasted malt dominated, with accents of chocolate, coffee, alcohol, and even some oak and licorice. The flavor is a more chocolatey sweet roasted flavor, with a lingering aftertaste of dark chocolate. Delicious taste, even better aroma! pjweaver (125), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 4, 2009 Glass from bottle.
Pours a pure black color, with a mocha colored head. Aroma is remarkable, dark chocolate, espresso, currants, booze, toasty malts. Boozy flavor with tons of chocolate and coffee, hints of red fruits, sweet and warm. Good overall beer....(did a blind tasting of this beer at a 7/3/6/3/14 3.3, but I think i was pretty shit faced at that point.)
fidelis83 (221), Clinton, Iowa, USA Dec 31, 2008 Pours black as coal with a thin ring of dark brown when held to the light. Head is tall caramel brown and last forever while leaving a good amount of lacing, beautiful beer. Aroma is huge on roast, chocolate liquor, coffee, molasses cookies, butterscotch, and some nice herbal, floral hops. Flavor is roasty, nice amount of coffee, bitter hops, dark roast, chocolate, a hint of toasty toffee, and some dark fruit. Overall it is a fairly sweet brew with a decent amount of alcohol coming through in the flavor. FInish is bitter and roasty with a really interesting herbal hop, dark malt aftertaste.
