Mocha, toffee, and fruity nose. Heavy bitter, medium sweet. Lightly carbonated, dried fruit, coffee, thick, creamy, chewy, sweet, finishing long, boozy, and very bitter. An exceptional example of this style, albeit a bit too harshly bitter.

Smells of freshly chopped wood, a little spicy, and a nice roasted malt presence. Pours coal black with a long-lasting creamy head, awesome lacework. Tastes of roasted black coffee, alcohol. Nice creamy texture, full-bodied, perfect carbonation. This is one of the greatest stouts in the world right here. It’s been in my top 10 for 10 years. lobonator (5), San Juan, Puerto Rico does not count | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 24, 2009 A trend setter. Aroma of chocolate and raisins. No Hops. Appearance, beautiful ruby sparkles and brown foam. Good foam stability given the strength. Taste again bitter chocolate and hints of raisin with notes even of figs. Long bitter aftertaste but not harsh. Not a sweet stout - the better for it! Not hoppy. Palate was full bodied yet light on the tongue. Soft carbonation. A beautiful beer. Toxygen (331), Sanford, Florida, USA

| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 22, 2009 Pours, dark black with an inch of creamy off white head. Laces nicely throughout the glass, all the way down. Smell, is of roasted malts, & coffee. Mouth feel is medium. Taste is strong on coffee notes but has enough of a hoppy bite to keep from cloying. One of the best beers I’ve ever had. Will drink again & again. taphandle (35), Texas, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 21, 2009 12 oz. bottle into English pint at The Winking Lizard (they didn’t have any more snifters). Pours almost black with a nice finger and a half of tan head. Wonderful coffee, malt, and hops aromas. The taste is pleasantly malty and a little bitter from the hops with undertones of bitter chocolate, fresh coffee, and dried fruit. The alcohol is hidden well. Very good. Bricks (40), USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 20, 2009 Smells of coffee, malt, and hops. Great aroma. A little too carbonated IMO. Taste just like it smells, but more hop than expected. Also something else there.. maybe raisins.
